CBI or CIT?

Preferred Walk-On
Just a quick glance and it seems like half the teams in this field are sub .500. I was excited about matchup potentials in this tournament until I saw the participating teams. I was hoping teams like ODU and Louisiana Tech would be among the field, but no such luck. This field does not look as strong as years past. A lot of schools must have passed on the invite. Now I'm thinking we should have done the same.

So don't get me wrong, but I'm not a fan of us taking a bid in this tournament.

1) our guys are gassed
2) i believe it costs money
3) not thrilled by the teams we'd play
4) I don't see what positives come out of it, unless we are only only playing guys for next year (meaning no Moore or Jenkins, which I doubt and would be equally silly)
5) limited fan interest to show up at EBA
6) we closed out the year playing hard (even though we lost), anything but making the final will seem like a let down
7) I kinda agree with the sentiment that we should have standards as a program NCAAs or NIT, nothing else

Open to hearing opposing points.

I'm not mad that we are doing this, just don't see the benefit. I say let the guys enjoy what they accomplished, rest, go to class and get ready to make a bigger statement next year.

I am not a GMU alum
but i live in NoVa and love college basketball
I love it so much that so far this year i have spent $1250 on college bball tix, $50 on high school bball tix and $250 on Wizards tix
I have season tix to GWU (i am not an alum)
I have partial season tix to Georgetown ( i am not an alum)
saw about 5 GMU games this year and 4 Howard U games this year
and 4 tournaments in NYC/MSG/Barclays/Newark in Nov and Dec

I love music and the Green Machine so much that I send them a yearly donation and have been to a few GMU women's games just to hear the band play

I am happy for any opportunity to watch more college bball and hear the band

my first complaint is that both GWU and GMU are playing at the same time so i can only see one of them (I choose GMU - because i can hear the band and drive to the game and not ride METRO)
my 2nd complaint is that 6 months ago i planned a vacation starting on March 17th and wont be back till March 25th so i will potentially miss games if GMU and/or GWU win

I'd be somewhat surprised if we don't win this thing."

According to Sagarin, which I believe is equivalent to rpiforecast, has Mason as a 12 pt favorite over Loyola.

Recruit
Team that shall not be named won this tournament one season and made the final four the next. Granted w/ a first year coach and no real senior talent (year after Maynor/Sanders graduated), but our team is younger so still think it is worth pay to play. Cannot image it costs more than taking the team to Europe. Don't have the same expectation of outcome even if we do it this year and next, but I expect Paulsen asked for it, and if he thinks it will help... I will buy tickets. Go Mason!

Let they young ones play...pressure hoops as Paulsen noted.

Do I want a CBI banner for participating...no. But right now I want Paulsen to have something to talk about with recruits on what we are building on and what it could be if they came to Mason.

Besides, winning 20 games in a season deserves a bit more than going home.
Ask Ryan Pearson. He won 24 his senior year and all he got was a box to clean our his locker and carry his POY trophy in.

Worst case scenario? Moore, Jenkins and Tate end their careers on their home court this week. Not the worst thing.

Wow some fans are excited to be playing a team with a losing record in the Loser tournament:eatingfingers:. We will continue to be mediocre because people around here embrace mediocrity and accept losing.

I'm glad the program decided to keep playing, with such a young team the CBI will be a benefit for them to get more reps. I just hope it yields more of a benefit than last time.

Lets face it, the teams in the tournament this time around aren't great and yield competition that Mason usually plays as buy games in November. It is disappointing, but this should be used as a stepping stone for the young guys, and a reward for the loyalty of Moore and Jenkins over their time at Mason. This is not where the program wants to be every year (and certainly not where I want it to be). But extra practice time together and more games, can't hurt.

I don't know who the bigger loser is.. the people on here that are "excited" about a program heading in the right direction, or a guy who has nothing better to do than troll a message board at 12:19am. Sad!
