Sorry, my Royal Flush is all hearts.

You and PiKapp are not interested in broadening your minds aside from your raging ids and fragile egos. So, quite logically, I fold holding the Royal Flush in the suit of hearts—I seek knowledge to improve myself, therefore, debate with your ilk is pointless. You and PiKapp are not the intellectuals that you two think you are. You're both nothing more than shameless, childish thugs.

Oh, and by the way, a Royal Flush is a type of Straight Flush, I never give away the full value of my hand during a deal.

Is this your version of the Socratic method?

Interesting recent example of left wing orthodoxy punishing professors who think different.

Portland State University Professor Bruce Gilley is now facing a university investigation over a 2017 academic journal article entry that praised acts of colonialism. Now, months later, Gilley is facing an investigation from Portland State over the article. According to Gilley, the investigation is the result of a harassment complaint filed by students who were upset with Gilley’s political positions.

"It’s the well-known schism between the old left and the new left. Noam Chomsky is a member of the old left, and the old left was fully conversant in the importance of debate and dialectic. It’s the new left, the cultural left, the safe-spaces left, that is where the schism is. I was not surprised with that."

What’s interesting about this topic is I was talking about colonialism in India with my CFO — who is Indian — and he said he was greatful for British Colonialism saying the positives outweighed the negatives. With British Colonialism India got the following benefits that enables it to be one of the growing economies in the world including:

1.) English as a common language amongst Indian castes and tribes
2.) British educational system
3.) British Parliamentary government model to include a constitution
4.) Investments in road and rail

Most importantly - independence - without the above benefits - India would have been broken up and most likely a subordinate nation to regional powers.

So while the argument may seem counter intuitive it’s not without merit for intellectual examination.

My neighbor, a computer science engineer, has said the same thing previously, specifically mentioned his Father talking to him about the benefits it brought.

I was watching Anthony Bourdain's show on CNN and he was in a former French colony in Africa (name escapes me). While the French were there, they built a rail system that ran throughout the country. After independence, everything fell into disrepair so that today only a single train is left operational, and it breaks down regularly. Once it fails, there will be no way for people to travel freely through the country unless you own car, and most don't. Just sayin......

Isn’t that the failure of the French and the imperial administration?

Oh I get that. I guess I just wonder how much the French in Africa and elsewhere did to foster and develop local talent and expertise. If France left her colonies in a state of dependence without investing in the brain power of the locals that’s kind of on them.

Well in that regard your mileage will vary depending on the nation in question. If you look at India and Hong Kong --- there was obviously local talent that was developed and they succeeded because they internalized the cultural attributes from the colonizers that enabled them to succeed. Not every country will do well at that and likewise not every colonizer will be effective at that.

Along this vein this argument also pertains to Korea and their brutalizer Japan. The Koreans did retain the Japanese business model and other things to become the 14th largest economy in the world -- with a population of just 50m people. Really interesting...

Agree with your point. But not all the relationships were as abusive as in Korea.

The British are superior to the French in every regard.
