Hmmm, this thread sounds like a lot of conservatives clamoring for affirmative action for the sake of "diversity" now that they are the minority.

BTW - I agree completely with addressing the issue raised by Walter's post/quote from that article.

Walter’s post isn’t necessarily about political beliefs, though. But, yes, I think search committees should be mindful of hiring people with diverse and differing research interests so that students get a more diverse understanding of the possibilities within their field.

In other words, having a crit lit conservative literature professor won’t change anything but the content you read.

And by the way, this happens in a lot of different fields outside of academia, the dangers of monoculture in the corporate world are just as bad (especially in finance and IT).

Probably not :). But critical literary theory isn't necessarily a conservative or liberal lens. So in theory, I can do a post-structuralist class of, say, Ayn Rand if I were a conservative but that would still be crit lit.
