Welcome Daniel Relvao

As was stated on another thread, the guy seems to understand his role. He got some serious run last night with Temara being out and continued to be solid in altering shots and grabbing a couple rebounds. That pick and roll with Otis was beautiful and I would have loved for him to remember that he's 6'9-6'10 and has the ability to throw it down. He's tall and wide and needs to act like it.

All in all for a "project" he's been impressive so far, and I'm looking forward to watching him develop.

Daniel will be much more effective when he learns not to foul so much. He picks up could like a dog does fleas. Relvao is quick for size. Control that big body of his and the lane shuts down.

From the little I saw so far, I would prefer to see Relvao in the game then Troy.

Obviously Troy has tremendous upside, but he is a true freshman. Relvao seems to know his role right now. Play solid defense, take up space, set screens and let the guards do the work.

Either way we seem to have some quality depth now.

ya I am complete opposite. Troy provides a ton of intensity when he is out there. We don't really have a lot of that on the team. Troy is also way more polished offensively.

Yeah no doubt Troy's Offensive game is better. Obviously it is to early to tell, but I just trust the ball in the hands of Moore and Otis right now. I don't want them sharing it haha. I like Relvao setting screens for the guards, and letting them do the work haha.

I am sure troy could do that and do a fine job too though.

It's just nice to know that we have a bigger guy we can plug in when we need to. Troy and Daniel have two different skill sets and both will be important pieces moving forward. With all of the uncertainty surrounding Daniel for the past year, it's been a pleasant surprise to see that he's already earned Paulsen's trust.

If Coach Paulsen sticks with the 4-guard offense next season, it's going to be very competitive at the "5".

I think he will. A, we'll have 6'6 Wilson and 6'7 Mar available at the 4 and b, someone asked him before the Penn State game if he would go bigger against a bigger opponent and he said, no, and said the NBA and the college game is heading towards a 4 guard lineup.

I'm not sure we are watching the same game. This team's intensity and toughness has been outstanding. Troy has no clue as to the speed, tempo and rhythm to the game at this level. Daniel has grown into a role that protects the rim, rebounds and facilitates an offense. Troy will eventually be a Jaylen enhancement type of player once he get's into shape and slows down the mind.

With Mar and Wilson available to share time at the 4, I don't see us having to play a lot of 4-guard sets next season.

I do think we'll have three guards on the floor at all times. It will still be the strength of the roster.

But we'll have a lot more flexibility/versatility on both ends of the court because Mar and Wilson are excellent defenders at 6-7.

C -- Temara/Relvao
PF -- Mar/Wilson
SF -- Boyd/Kier
SG -- Grayer/Newman
PG -- Livingston/Greene

I agree. But I will say it looks like there's going to be some fierce competition at the 2 and 3 spots next season. I'm not sure how it's going to shake out, but I can imagine any pair of Grayer, Newman, Boyd, and Kier starting there.

Your right I don't think we will have to play 4 guards. But I am starting to think Paulsen wants to play with 4 guards. He has made a few comments about college basketball and the NBA are all starting to go to a 4 guard line up.

yea we definitely aren't watching the same game. The only real comparison Temara and Relvao have are they foul every chance they get. Relvao is non existent in the offensive end other than setting GREAT screens. Temara is a better passer, can dribble more than once without picking the ball up and can score. Relvao can't do any of that

Screens are important and setting them is part of the offense, so yes he does exist on that end of the floor. I think it'd look a bit different if he would have thrown down that pick and roll pass from Otis like he should have, and I bet the coaches have pointed that out to him. You are correct though, there aren't many similarities between the two, which is a good thing in this case. Relvao provides something nobody else can (aside from Dixon's height).. SIZE.. and no matter what Paulsen does with the lineup next year, it is important to at least have one guy on the roster with that unteachable trait.

You are spot on. And I wasn't meaning to be down on Relvao. I just would rater have Temara on the court when Jalen is resting so we can not go down to 4 on 5 in the offensive end. That is one thing about our starting lineup I love. Each one of them can score
