Welcome Daniel Relvao

While I try not to draw conclusions one way or the other from highlight videos designed to show kids at their best, Daniel's senior video is leaps and bounds better than the one from his junior season.

His ability to elevate and finish plays with dunks is the most noticeable difference between the two videos.

He also has a nice confident stroke from 15 feet and in, and his ability to get out and hedge screens will be valuable in college considering how many schools rely on the ball screen offense now.

Plenty of raw material there for the staff to work with. It's up to Daniel how hard he is willing to work to fulfill his talent.

Totally. Again, consider in the first video he had been playing for about one year, and in the second, about two years. He's still in the phase where you make MASSIVE leaps in skill from one year to the next. It's hard not to wonder how much progress he'll make by the time he's an upper classman.

Interesting prospect...

I think DP is very good at developing big men. Muscala was a very lightly recruited big man out of Minnesota who developed into an NBA player during his four years under DP's tutelage.

While at Williams, he developed a skinny 6-8" kid from Massachusetts into a first team All American by his junior year on DP's national championship team.

Even Bucknell's freshman center last season made big strides from the first game to his last game under DP.

If Relvao is willing to put in the time and work hard, he has the potential to develop into a very good A-10 big man. He should benefit by going up against Shevon every day in practice in his freshman year.

I mean, do you not think it's a safe assumption? Do you think we're the George Mason of the past?

No, but our front court is not exactly an area of weakness on this team. I mean the guy who displaced him is basically a shot-blocking specialist who averaged 6.9 points and 5.9 rebounds per game...not exactly in the same league as Shevon Thompson.

Relvao is 6'9"... and you can't teach height! We will need size badly when Shevon, Royal, and Marko are gone next year. Given his short career but improving career, it's exciting to dream about what he might become...

He also has a 7'4 wingspan, you def can't teach that!

Completely agree. This video has be far more optimistic than the first did. Uses his body well to create space and passing lanes, smooth looking jumper and finishes well around the rim. I recant my earlier negative diagnosis.

Not very excited about this signing. Only met four Portuguese in my life and they were all lazy and stupid. I think Romania borders Portugal as well and we all know how Vlad Moldoveneau turned out here.
Maybe Barack Obama's dog will come to games now, at least.

Only in Jollay World can impugning someone's heritage be considered "welcoming" behavior.

Oh yes, I forgot. Welcome to Mason, Daniel!! I think you will be impressed with the ethnic diversity of our team...we have one Jamaican and one person from Falls Church and you will find our fan base welcoming and accepting of illegal immigrants who sap our tax dollars!!

From a Valpo fan board: "George Mason isn't the George Mason of the past. Daniel is probably a better fit there. He'll get more playing time at George Mason than he would've at Valpo."

Guess we shouldn't be surprised that Valpo fans don't know anything about our depth chart given that we have been less than relevant for the past four years. But I still find it interesting that the poster assumes Valpo has more talent at the 4 and 5 spots than we do.

Gotta say, the sooner DP makes it so we're once again looking down the food chain at schools like Valparaiso, the happier I'll be.

Forget Valpo. I want to look down at GW, vcu, UMass, URI, Dayton, Richmond, Davidson...

GIVING DAY 2023
With the addition of Daniel Relvao, we officially have the largest team in the history of our program and perhaps the biggest in the A-10:

C -- Thompson 6-11, 232
F -- Dixon 6-10, 220
F -- Relvao 6-9, 235
F -- Royal 6-8, 232
F -- Gujanicic 6-8, 225
F -- Jenkins 6-7, 225
F -- Mayimba 6-7, 199
G -- Abram 6-7, 185

Yes, that's 8 of 13 players on the roster who are 6-7 or taller, leaving:

G -- Grayer 6-5, 200
G -- Moore 6-2, 200
G -- Murrell 6-2, 195
G -- Holloway 6-1, 167
G -- Livingston 5-11, 160

Here's how I foresee the depth chart breaking down for 2015-16 (again, assuming Mayimba is eligible):

C -- Thompson (Sr)/Relvao (Fr)/Dixon (Fr)
PF -- Jenkins (R-Jr)/Gujanicic (Sr)/Royal (R-Sr)/Dixon (Fr)
SF -- Mayimba (R-Fr)/Grayer (Fr)/Abram (Fr)
SG -- Holloway (Sr)/Murrell (Fr)/Grayer (Fr)/Abram (Fr)
PG -- Moore (Jr)/Livingston (Fr)/Murrell (Fr)

Young, as expected, with six true freshmen and one RS freshman. But if 2 or 3 of these young guys can give us anything of substance off the bench, we could be decent. It's a roster that a guy like Paulsen can get to .500 in the A-10, plus or minus a game.

I don't think we could've asked for much more, given the loss of three scholarship players and two committed Class of 2015 recruits. I can't wait to see how this team comes together.

Relvao is coming in at 6'9" and 235, but after a few keggers and he gets himself laid a few times he'll be a 6'11 or seven footer 265 lbs. big man. Lots to look forward to. If there's any fight in this team we could win some close ones. I agree with gmujim92 that we couldn't have asked for much more. Like the professors would put on my papers...A good start.

Tall players are automatically good players too.

Oh, hey there Sam Harris. When did you get here?

It might make sense to redshirt 2 guys ... one of Dixon/Relvao, and one of the SF.

Gotta be Dixon and Abram, as long as they're agreeable.

Both could use the time to get stronger and acclimate to the college game, and both will undoubtedly be far better (barring injury) in their fifth year of eligibility than they'll be as true freshmen.

Thanks to the additions of Relvao and Grayer, both also play positions at which we now have someone else ready to take the backup minutes.

As pointed out, it would also help balance out the classes so we don't have a massive 6-man class. Those almost guarantee that 1-2 guys will be dissatisfied with playing time and transfer out.

It makes too much sense to not do it.
