Ian Boyd commits to Mason

I like marquise but Otis is a better PG already...Now I'm sure a lot of this has to do with DP coaching the team but the point remains, he found us a PG in April that looks the part of a 4 year starter....something PH never did.

So, you don't consider Marquise Moore a solid PG?

Agreed. I get that everybody wants to make every post about slamming the former regime, but that's ridiculous to say they whiffed on Moore. They might not have optimized his talent like Paulsen will, but he was a great pick up.

Otis being a better PG than Moore is debatable. He's a better outside shooter than Moore is, but that doesn't make him a better PG.

Moore not being vocal does take away from his ability to run the pg position at full effectiveness, something we all have seen Otis excel in already. Moore could go down as one of the best slashing guards Mason has had.

Just watched his highlight videos for the first time, and holy hell is he exciting. Reminds me of Folarin Campbell/Jesse Pellot-Rosa/any other big-bodied, versatile shooting guard you can think of.

My biggest concern about Paulsen coming in was his ability to recruit at an A-10 level. He really did a fantastic job getting all the freshmen we have now late in the recruiting period, and it looks like he's off to a fantastic start for 2016.

Here's the funny thing, Petey: The recruiting experts will continue to say Paulsen is not "recruiting at an A-10 level" even after we're winning the conference and playing in the NCAA tournament.

That's because they only consider measurables and have no insight whatsoever into the qualities that our staff (or any other staff, for that matter) is looking for in a recruit.

Look at what McKillop does at Davidson: find a bunch of unranked, overlooked recruits nobody has ever heard of, and coach them up to become exactly the players he wants them to be.

I wouldn't expect to see many highly touted recruits sign with Mason during Paulsen's tenure, simply because he knows what he is looking for better than ESPN, Rivals, Scout or 247Sports.

Marquise was more vocal yesterday than I've ever seen him. BTW, Marquise basically has been a starting PG since the 11th game of his career (I consider Otis & Marquise as starting PG's in Paulsen's system). Also, I don't recall a coach ever yelling at Marquise for not defending.

In no way was I taking a shot at MM, just stating the fact that DP came in here late and managed to land a day 1 starter at PG. I love what MM is doing in the off guard role this year and there is no doubt that DP and staff have had a very positive impact on his game thus far.

Agree that Marquise is much better suited for a slasher/off-guard role. Otis is a more traditional PG and better at running and facilitating the offense. It took a couple games to figure that out, but they complement each other really well and the offense has been clicking since.

I believe that Peyton Aldridge was a highly touted recruit who committed after the announcement of Davidson joining the A10.

He was a 3-star, pretty high by McKillop's standards but still not an elite recruit by any means. I seem to recall Bill & Mary was one of his finalists.

My point still stands.

He's also an outstanding student, so I'm not surprised if W&M was a finalist.

We are essentially starting two PGs, both of whom are complementing one another nicely. I love how people refer to Moore as an off guard, because calling him a shooting guard would be silly. The funny thing is Livingston is actually the better perimeter shooter, while Moore is better at driving. Very smart decision by DP to start them together.

Does it remind you of Hewitt starting Marquise & Corey Edwards together?

I love Corey, but I'm much more comfortable with Otis having the ball.

Yep. Granted, Otis has the luxury of playing in a real offense, but he's already more comfortable than Corey ever seemed.

Have to disagree with you guys here. Marquise is a terrific initiator, a better on the ball defender, and a better drive and dish player.

I like Otis a lot, but from what I've seen this year, I would rather have MM be my primary PG.

That said, I agree entirely with @gmutom that neither of them are off guards. We play with two point guards at the same time, and they share duties.
