Ian Boyd commits to Mason

Herndon

All-Conference
Does anybody else feel like this is a guy we're all going to love by the time he graduates? I always like basketball players who were football players, because they always have a kind of physicality that many other guys don't. They're going to be guys who don't avoid contact on the way to the rim, and always try to finish instead of flopping to try to draw a foul. They're going to be guys who you can "play up" a position and go small because they're not going to get out-muscled.

I've got $20 that says this kid plays minutes at the 4 during his career.

His game just screams "11 point, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1.5 steals, 1 block" per game

As the founding member of the Ian Boyd bandwagon, the thing that most intrigues me is that he has accomplished so much in basketball despite never having devoted his full attention to the sport.

The story seems to suggest that his upside was greater in football, but even Ian seems genuinely curious to see how good he can become as a basketball player once he's able to work on his game full-time.

He already has amazing natural physical ability and seems to have the work ethic. Now that we have a high-quality coaching staff to help him refine his skills, I'd say the sky is the limit.

Trivia Question: Name 3 players on the Final Four Team who played high school football?

Jai certainly had the size. But I can't remember if trying out for the Giants was his first foray into football or not. Might have been a lacrosse player given his Baltimore roots.

I'm guessing Gabe Norwood was one of the 3, given that his father was (is?) an asst football coach at Penn St and that his brother played (and I think is in the NFL). Sammie Hernandez also had good size and was from Miami.

Jai Lewis and Gabe Norwood are correct answers. I'm not aware that Campbell, Skinn, or Hernandez played high school football. But, there was another player on the Final Four roster who was the starting quarterback on his high school team.

BTW, Jai lettered in 4 sports. Can you name them?

I believe the 3rd player is John Vaughan.

As for Jai, I think it was basketball, football, lacrosse and Track and Field

How many positions does Boyd play on that team?!

Thankfully, the correct tense for your question is "How many positions DID Boyd play on that team."

Apex failed to qualify for the playoffs this season with a 4-6 record, but more important for our interests, Ian made it through the season unscathed.

Now he just needs to do the same in his final season of HS basketball.

You know, if things break right for him, he might even be able to be a practice playeron our club football team! :)

Just watched his highlight videos for the first time, and holy hell is he exciting. Reminds me of Folarin Campbell/Jesse Pellot-Rosa/any other big-bodied, versatile shooting guard you can think of.

My biggest concern about Paulsen coming in was his ability to recruit at an A-10 level. He really did a fantastic job getting all the freshmen we have now late in the recruiting period, and it looks like he's off to a fantastic start for 2016.
