I bet these big schools bet on him playing football and didn't consider him choosing basketball

"WR Ian Boyd Still Torn Between Sports

Three star Ian Boyd is being recruiting in both basketball and football. While he welcomes the attention, it certainly makes choosing the path for himself in life a lot more difficult. So, Boyd will make his collegiate decision in an interesting, albeit very savvy way.

'I’m picking the college – if I like the college that’s the sport I’m going to play,' said Boyd.

The wide receiver prospect has earned several major football offers including Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and East Carolina while a host of smaller schools are interested in him for basketball.

Robert Graham [Apex H.S. football coach] may be a bit biased but he believes Boyd should stick to football.

'I think once those college guys get him and show him what he can do on the football field, the sky’s the limit for him because he’s tremendously athletic,' said Graham."

Good god. A body like this on a fast moving guard, yessssss! He looks like he is ready for the A-10 with that body. He looks explosive and fearless and loves to cut to the rim and looks comfortable doing so. Plus he can throw it down! Can't wait for him to break some necks on some vcu players.

Not sure about his mid range jumper and defense but the Coaches can work with him on that.

Very good pick-up! Thata boy Paulsen!

If his aspirations are to go pro, he made the smart move to pursue basketball instead of football. NFL has the shorter career length and lower salary... not to mention the injuries in football and he'd most likely have to red-shirt and sit out a year. Plus there really isn't much opportunity outside of the NFL other than coaching. At least in basketball, you can still earn really good money going overseas if you don't make the NBA.

Looks like at one time he was ranked #41 for his position, I wonder if the drop off was because he looked to be leaning more towards football

That's exactly what it was. He blew up earlier in football and until this past summer everyone assumed he was going to play football in college.

He started at QB on the varsity as a freshman. He led Apex to a state title in football last season. And yet, some very smart people I know believe that his upside is MUCH higher in basketball.

This is a special athlete. I can't wait to see what he's able to do at Mason.

Rarely ... as in, never.

I've been thinking about it since last night, and I'm reasonably sure Boyd will be the most explosive athlete we've ever had.

He already has a college-ready body and still has eight months before HS graduation.

Pretty amazing that his only basketball offers were Mason, Radford and Western Carolina.

I think Virginia Tech also offered him.

And Boyd also was on a state title team his sophomore year for the basketball team. And was DOMINATE in the state title game.

Improve his shot...and we've got a real find here.....

"After putting Ian Boyd in at QB midway through the 4th quarter, Apex went on to score 21 of their 26 fourth-quarter points. Boyd completed 8 of his 13 passes and finished with 160 yards and 3 touchdowns.

'Depending on what Grayson (Boyd)’s situation is, Ian might be the quarterback next week', Graham added."

"Once Ian Boyd lined up under center, the whole game changed. He made big play after big play and Apex found themselves only down 7 after trailing by 21 points with a little over 6 minutes to go."
