I'm not sure what the school said about PH, but if a student athlete is struggling with a class, are they going to get suspended in order to raise the grade? If Hollway got suspended for skipping class then I'm fine with it. If he got suspended bc he is struggling with the work, then I am not okay with the suspension.

Actually, this team is in better shape now than it has been. Because it's now starting to resemble a team.

Nice guy, but no loss whatsoever. No room for no-defense, yes diva types anyway in Paulsen's world.
I'm going to have to disagree. We see how terrible the team is after a suspension. Now a senior leaves the team, can't be a good effect on the freshmen or even the incoming recruits.

He was a shooter who couldn't shoot. This is a rebuilding year anyway, so Dave has all the more incentive to build up the freshmen with playing time. They say that if you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Holloway couldn't take the heat, so this will work out better for all in the long term. Now if we could only get Marko back sooner than later...

Actually, it shouldnt matter. Considering the seniors are leftovers from a different coach it shouldn't really matter. If anything, like Jollay said, Paulsen is moving further away from leftovers those who do not do what he asks, to moving closer to a team that he wants on and off the court.

That said, the team from a roster perspective is a mess but to be expected in a rebuilding year and program

This season is a wash, so frankly who cares?

Even if EVERYTHING had gone right for this team, its ceiling was mid-pack A-10.

Now that is out the window and Paulsen can focus on getting our young guys as much experience as possible in preparation for next season.

I hate to see Shevon's college career end this way -- unlike the other seniors, he appears to have handled his business in a first-class manner -- but the reality is that ripping off the band-aid will only help the program down the road.

The sooner we are free from the stench of Hewitt, the better off we will be.

Is there a catch where if they play thru first semester but quit the team before 2nd semester, they keep their scholarship and can finish school? Will this count against our APR?

I just hope all this dismay won't make the freshmen run from this program also.

Our freshmen already are more mentally and physically tough than Patrick Holloway ever will be -- and if they're not, they won't last long under Paulsen, either.

As Dawgs pointed out, this is step 1 of the culture change. Expectations are being raised. Not everyone will make it.

Unfortunately, quitting the team mid-season is a fitting end for a guy who, with a huge assist from our idiot ex-coach, never came close to fulfilling his All-Met POY potential.

You can say that again. Didn't really see any improvements in his game from freshman year on forward. he could chuck up three pointers and running out of control floaters, that was about it.

Like others are saying, I wouldn't worry too much about that. DP should be communicating with the recruits and selling the program to the point they know what he is about and what he is trying to build.

Things like this can easily be explained. I don't think the recruits make decisions too much based on what our left over, senior bench players who are coming off suspensions are doing.
