A blessing. Puts the stink of Hewitt out of the system much faster than I ever expected and allows Paulsen to build the program with only 3 players and these may benefit the most from his system.

Hewitt's recruits who signed with 4 years of eligibility:

Erik Copes - left the program in the fall semester of his senior season
Patrick Holloway - left the program in the fall semester of his senior season
Marko Gujanicic - suspended indefinitely
Jalen Jenkins - redshirt junior
Marquise Moore - junior
Isaiah Jackson - transferred to Providence
Trey Porter - transferred to ODU
Erik Lockett - transferred to a JUCO
Therence Mayimba - nonqualifier transferred to a JUCO
Ahmad Gilbert - released from NLI and is at Minnesota

So, at most, 3 of these players will complete their eligibility at Mason.

A lot of squandered promise here.

Walk-On
Given the fact that PH was skipping classes, he may not care about finishing school.

1. If he doesn't graduate, we definitely get dinged on the APR.

2. Hopefully all the guys who transferred out go on to get degrees at their new schools or our APR number could get pretty ugly.

1. You could get dinged quicker than that. If he isn't academically eligible second semester, GMU loses 1 point in the formula. And if he doesn't return to school for second semester, another point is lost.

2. Whether the transfers get degrees is irrelevant in the APR formula. At the end of the semester when they transferred, they could have earned 0, 1, or 2 points in the formula. They would have earned the max 2 points for the semester if (a) they were still academically eligible - worth 1 point; and (b) if they had a 2.6 GPA or higher when they transferred - also worth 1 point. Once they are gone, they can no longer affect the GMU APR.

imagine how Georgia Tech feels... they've been messed up since

but I think Paulsen's boys have promise in the A10

It cost us $660,000 to move on. It cost Ga. Tech $7 million to move on. Even though they have way more money than us, I still feel sorry for them.

Listen to the way Coach Paulsen worded his farewell quote. It's obvious that Patrick is feeling some academic pressure.

You gotta hand it to him for not leaving earlier in his tenure. Recruited by Coach L, coached(NOT!) by Hewitt, attempted coaching from Paulsen. How many players see three coaches in 3-1/2 seasons?

Good luck Patrick!

I agree with Pablo that while Maosn is well within their rights to terminate his scholarship, they should honor it. But he damn well better graduate. What a kick in the teeth to Mason if he quits the team, keeps a scholly, and doesn't get a degree.
