Seem to remember people jumping all over me for asking about this before the season started...

Is there a catch where if they play thru first semester but quit the team before 2nd semester, they keep their scholarship and can finish school? Will this count against our APR?

Given the fact that PH was skipping classes, he may not care about finishing school.

If he doesn't graduate, we definitely get dinged on the APR.

Hopefully all the guys who transferred out go on to get degrees at their new schools or our APR number could get pretty ugly.

The curse of Blewitt lingers. But I have zero doubt that Paulsen will get our on- and off-court issues fixed sooner than later.

Although disappointed in how he ended his career at Mason, I'm not surprised by his decision.

From what I heard before the season started from a source that's friends with PH, he wasn't happy with the new coaching regime. He felt that the school was trying to completely wash out everything Hewitt related which is somewhat true. But instead of excelling on a new opportunity like Marko did and excel, he let it negatively effect him. I do applaud him for staying and trying to make things work... I just wished he started the season with a different attitude and approach.

In the long run, him leaving is probably best for the program. This season is a rebounding year and we have a very slim chance of making the NCAA. At least this will give our new guys more PT and experience.

Some would argue PH leaving is an indication that he is indeed "fixing" it.

Good riddance. He sucks on the court and in the classroom. If he has any good sense, which I'm afraid he lacks, he'll get his degree. He's gonna need it. Pull the academic support though, let him figure it out on his own.

Or maybe use that money to help pay the tuition for our walk-ons for next semester. Not even sure if that is possible.

When you start to realize you are not as good as your previous coach blew you up to be, then it can be hard on a kid. Again, another innocent basketball life taken by Hewitt, aka The King Program Killer.

It sounds like it was best for Patrick and Paulsen for him move on. I'm not going to kick the kid while he's down, so I'll just wish him the best of luck. I hope the current players can learn from Patrick's mistakes off the court and take advantage of the new opportunities his departure opens for them on the court.

Scholarships are renewed annually so I'm pretty sure he still gets the second semester if he wants it.

Gotta imagine the decision to part ways was a mutual one between the coach and player.

In that case, what is the harm in giving Patrick one last semester? We're under by 1 in scholarships anyhow, so DP can give the walk-ons some help if he wants to.

Under NCAA rules, Mason could terminate Patrick's athletic scholarship for quitting the program. But, I certainly hope that Mason allows him to remain on scholarship through the spring semester.

Here's hoping Patrick all the best in his future endeavors. He gave 3 years to Mason BB, despite being saddled with a bad coaching situation. There's no point in piling on a 21 year old kid who is probably as down as he's ever been.

Marko Gujanicic - suspended indefinitely
Jalen Jenkins - redshirt junior
Marquise Moore - junior
Isaiah Jackson - transferred to Providence
Trey Porter - transferred to ODU
Erik Lockett - transferred to a JUCO
Therence Mayimba - nonqualifier transferred to a JUCO
Ahmad Gilbert - released from NLI and is at Minnesota

So, at most, 3 of these players will complete their eligibility at Mason.
