Worst part of Holloway's suspension by far is missing out on Charleston, which remains one of the most fun cities in the U.S.

I never was. Wish I could. But I was referring to Holloway missing the trip.

Oh. Got it. This kid isn't even smart enough to get his butt to class. Not sure he could appreciate a fine city like Charleston.

GIVING DAY 2023
Patrick is my 10-year-old daughter's favorite player, and she was really excited that she got to meet him at the scrimmage a few weeks ago. When I broke it to her last night that he was suspended for 6 games for not going to class, she said no longer wants go to tomorrow night's game. I jokingly told her that I'll see if Patrick can come babysit her so I can go to the game he should be playing in.

Some good points about this probably not being his first offense and DP wanting to make an example. however, I wonder how much Edwards was involved in the decision. People give Coach L "credit" for being a hard a$$, but I've heard it was TOC forcing Coach L's hand on a lot of those suspensions. All coaches want to win and suspending guys who play major minutes isn't something they want to do (ie Urban Myer, etc). Its possible DP had enough and pulled the trigger. Its also possible DP wanted only a 3 game suspension and BE told him it was 6. Just something to think about

I believe that this was Coach Paulsen's decision only, and he's provided a reasonable explanation for the 6-game suspension.

The logic of the six game suspension was that the next 5 games after tonight are on the road which would entail more missed classes for Holloway.

Maybe, but we don't know. And having worked in athletics, the AD is involved when a decision like this has to be made in the school's highest profile sport.

6 games sounds severe for skipping class, but if you think about it how can you justify taking him out of school for the long weekend in charleston & trips to georgia & ny when the whole problem is missing class? the only home game he's missing is this friday.

Most of the time for athletic trips the teachers know about it and either A. give them the work ahead of time and its due when they get back. or B. They don't have to worry about it until they get back. I was an athlete when I was at Mason and I also had class with Will Thomas and he would always turn his stuff in either early or would turn it in the day he got back to class.

When you're representing your university the way they are there are some special rules. It is in no way comparable to skipping class.

I've told it before, but I love telling the story of when Rob Anderson was on the front page of the current edition of the Broadside, wearing his Basketball warmups, and advised our teacher at the beginning of class that he would miss the next class for a game and the teacher asked him for a note from his Coach. Everyone in the class started laughing and poor Rob didn't know how to respond.

My university gives us the nicely vague guideline of "you must give students representing the university proper accommodations for missing classes for official university sanctioned events" (which by the way includes everyone, not just student-athletes). We also are recommended to tell student-athletes who will miss more than two weeks of classes to drop.

It's possible that Holloway was suspended from the long road trip in order to concentrate on a crucial class in which he may be faltering? Skipping a class, if he did skip a class, can frequently be a clear indication of "giving up" on it.

My point is, there has to be more to the story that we are not hearing. I mean, come on, a SIX GAME suspension for skipping ONE class?!? There's a bigger reason that Holloway has to stay home and work on his studies.
