I actually think University Drive heading into Old Towne Fairfax would be a better get. The homes there are much older and the road is straight and connects the main campus to old towne. It would be a perfect fit financially and geographically.

You aren't wrong. It's a matter of two approaches. On Roberts individual properties could be purchased and used because they sit on enough land. The University would have to purchase the land on University Dr because of the sheer number of properties that would need to be cleared. Also there would be A LOT of pissed of neighbors over there. Denser area than Roberts.

Kappa Sigma has the house on Blue Topaz off Braddick Rd. We used to have a house on Roberts Road, right where the Catholic Campus ministry is, but we finally let them buy us out. It was great having the house there, and we always hoped the school would allow a bigger greek row, but it was not to happen.

Correct, my pledge class in Sigma Chi helped build that house, and I used to live in it before we sold it to Kappa Sigma.

Yup. 1500 Watts of "f*ck you" to the neighbors. And the seats behind the goal for a student/rowdy section is a nice touch.

I went by there today, and stopped in by the Field House to have a look...am I missing something, because I didn't see lights on the baseball field/The Hap. I saw what looked like new lighting for the Mason Stadium and what appeared to be some reconfiguration and new seating for baseball. I'm really looking forward to night baseball at GMU, but what I saw didn't show me the way soon.

I do like the improvement projects and the fresh logos on the field house, and the huge "MASON" painted on the roof...'bout damn time we starting tooting our horn a bit more.

From what I can tell the renderings in the Patriot Park proposal show a future baseball field that's been completed. Right now the baseball redevelopments are in Phase I of II. Seems like the real improvements like lights come next.

I also really like how it appears to have a concourse in centerfield that doubles as part of the soccer stadium. I'll admit I didn't think they had enough land to make everything work but they pulled it off. Even built the hill into the stadium on the right side. Please don't f**k this up by taking the option that just redevelops the current configuration.

Just like illegal immigration is used to ethnically cleanse the Us of citizens we should cleanse Roberts road of NIMBYs. Flood the gates !!

Currently working on some stuff regarding a row. School's more open than you would think. 1/2 of the sororities have the money to build. A handful of fraternities have a significant chunk of change, but not enough to buy property.
I would be curious to hear how receptive the school is to building a greek row. Pretty sure Kappa Sig was the only house to actually own a property when I was on campus. All the other fraternities would rent nice homes and obliterate them for 1-2 years before being kicked out. I am not sure the school being receptive for greek housing would matter that much because of the hurdles everyone would have to go through regarding some archaic Fairfax county laws (no more than 4 unrelated women can live in the same domicile or it is considered a brothel) type of stuff. Would be interesting for sure if they could get it done but I don't think it is going to happen at all.

We should have game attendance requirements if we were to build a greek row. Greek Life at Mason, currently, sucks. No school spirit.

Mason should buy up all the houses near West Campus especially if a Larger stadium were to be built or that Research Park they want to build.
Greek life at Mason definitely doesn't suck but it is easy to say that on the outside looking in lol.

If the fraternities and sororities bought the land and put it into a trust where the university was the trustee - they can get around county rules .

People around here don't seem to like floodlights. I say we put some up around the chapel to get people to move out of Roberts Rd.

Resident: What's the really bright light?
Mason: It's the light of God.
Resident: Why is it shining in my bedroom at 3 am?
Mason: God wants you to sell up.

^this. Once the school has the property they can zone it as a dorm.

Went to a Greek housing forum the school put on two years ago. The message was basically "we're ok with it but the funds aren't there and we're waiting on enrollment growth so the chapters grow as well and can better fill houses."

Basically not enough orgs have money set aside and the school is waiting to pay off bonds.

That being said I'd be super pumped if any other Greek alumni wanted to start something up in regards to moving towards getting a row built. I think the orgs are gonna have to band together.

No chance any universities without a greek row are eager to build any, way too much bad press for fraternities/sororities these days. The only way they still exist on older campuses is because of the alumni.

The one counter argument to lights at the baseball field I've heard is that we play all of our games from late February to early May, and the majority of that time it's going to be too cold to want to watch a night baseball game anyway. Not saying I fully agree, but I have shivered at enough day games there that it make some sense. I'll defer to the players and coaches as to whether this is something they need.

There are many day games I've been to that were cancelled or called early due to poor lighting. A 3pm start on a cloudy day in March gets dark quickly. I would say its not about having night games all the time but it certainly means there would be no more games called due to darkness. And lights on a college baseball facility are must-have if you want to recruit against most mid-Atlantic programs like Radford, VMI, Towson, UMBC......

Put the light up and point them directly to the houses . They will lose e and property prices will drop . Then Mason comes in and scoops up land.

Lights have been standard for HIGH SCHOOLS for years. Its almost embarrassing at this point. This really needs to get done soon.

I have talked to folks in the AD about lights at the baseball stadium, and they did not sound optimistic at all. Which is too bad. If we want to host any kind of postseason play, we will need them.
