City of Fairfax may do a land swap with Mason for Green Acres property.

I personally think Mason should expand towards Main street to build more dorms and also allow students to actually be a part of Fairfax -- give it more of a college town feel.

Not sure if this going to be feasible - I mean Green Acres is surrounded by Mason land and buildings - just do a straight sale.

Seems crazy they wouldn't want to go for the site PVI is on and just sell green acres to Mason. It's perfect for the community center they want to build. Near the VFW, little league fields, situated on a big plot of land ect. Seems the residents on Roberts are up in arms about that land going to Mason though.

From what we've been told, 80% of funds have to be donated through 'big' donations before they go public. I put in my two cents about corporate donors and asked for no naming rights because people would lose their minds (I know I would).

By George and GK will host fundraising events once the threshold is reached for public 'small' donations, so make sure to come through!

I think they're only taking $25K+ donations rn.

Other news;
Baseball stadium expansions might take place this late this summer. Still no official announcement / start date as of yet.

That's weird because JMU is going to be able to break ground on its new arena once it has raised just $12M of the $88M price tag.

I wonder why Mason has to have most of the money raised before the practice facility construction can get started.

Isn't JMU's arena going to also be a new convocation center? It probably has to do with what they plan on using it for.

It can't possibly be getting any state funding because they're using it for graduation purposes right?

Maybe its bc we have a B credit rating? Issuing bonds to raise money for all the new buildings is my guess.

Probably tied to giving/revenue and debt service. No history of significant giving prior to the current AD is my guess or it would have been done. If JMU is a convocation center then the financial game changes. Not unusual.

So $88M will get 8000 seat arena with a practice facility. Why do the Dukes need that? Another half-empty white elephant. Maybe they will only build one side. :D

Has their football stadium expansion not brought the extra fans? I haven't been paying attention.

Attendance has been declining. Apparently no one wants to see JMU play the JV team of the Little Sisters of the Poor.

2011 25,000
2012 22,783
2013 21,011
2014 19,816
2015 19,586

All very respectable numbers for FCS. In fact, the highest in FCS but the trend is down.

Natural Light and Lifestyle condoms are picking up the rest on a joint naming rights buy out, per sources via sources.

True, a straight sale would be the best option. Mason needs that land for more dorms or more class rooms. We should have bought that land next to Merten Hall too, but *shrugs* live and learn. Guess we gotta eminent domain that sh*t later once we exploit all other options.

Was super bored at work and was messing around on the facilities website when I found the Land/Building committee has finally put up meeting slides from more recent meetings than 2011. Looks like a new 3,000 seat soccer stadium is in the works. (Page 20)

Soccer specific stadiums are gonna grow in popularity as MLS grows in the US. Louisville's soccer specific stadium is beautiful.

We definitely need a stadium upgrade. Even though it would be a drop from the 5K, it would be a bump from the HS football stadium we currently have.

True, although the ACC is to soccer most years what the SEC is to football. Can't expect anything nearly on that level. The placement of it also strikes me as curious. It seems to directly abutt spuehler field and would be where one of the practice fields is now on ground that would need serious leveling to be able to build a stadium on. Seems like Mason Stadium should just be redone with track relocated elsewhere.

The soccer stadium will probably something like the other 3K seat stadiums around the NCAA. Nothing too fancy, but I know it'll be pretty.

A nice stadium to replace the old 5K seat one would be beneficial to Mason too. Not only for Soccer and W Lacrosse, but possible future sports like Field Hockey, Men's Lax, Rugby or FCS Football (I know, far fetched).

Mason's proximity to DC would also make a nice 15K+ seat stadium a viable concert venue too for Summer Tours. Even host festivals or similar events. Especially if we build small, but with all the amenities like premium boxes, etc.

I don't think you could have a football team and soccer team share the same field, a, because trying to play soccer on a field lines for football is horrible, but b the seasons run pretty much concurrently in the NCAA.

But maybe that's why they are moving the soccer stadium over?
