Good for him, hopefully he gets to end his college playing career the way he wants, what ever that may be.Kier gets one more season but wants out of Mason

The question that needs to be aswered is how many pre-season scrimmages did Mason play?
If Mason played only one scrimmage then that and the exhibition game are exempt against their season's contest total and Justin is eligible for a Medical Hardship Waiver. Only two such contests (one exhibition plus one scrimmage, or two scrimmages) can be exempt from the official number of contests played. If Mason played two or more scrimmages then the season contest total is greater than 32 and Justin would fail to qualify for a medical redshirt.
Go back and read the analysis if you're confused. Believe me, the NCAA medical redshirt regulations are brutally nutso!
Scrimmages and exhibition games are not included in the NCAA formula, so all of that is irrelevant. GMU had 32 games for purposes of the formula. That means if he played 10 or less games (32 x 30% = 9.6, rounded up to 10), which he did, that he qualifies. And since he didn't play after the 16th game, he is OK.
This is embarrassing, no other way to look at it.
I’ll be really interested to see where he goes.
That Paulsen can’t retain his star player after we apparently drew our entire system up around him last season? This is embarrassing, no other way to look at it.
That would really sting. It is feasible that he goes to JMU just to be closer to his mom. He'd start, get a ton of minutes and be welcomed as a local hero returning home.
Is also "not ruling out returning to Fairfax". Keep hope alive!
Oh stop it, kids always say that and never stay.
Kier still doesn't have good enough of a jump shot to be a guard in the P5. Is he ok being a 6th man at a P5 like Grayer?
Kier's 3pt % has definitely improved, but his shot is still slow and he doesn't leave the ground. He'll get rejected a lot in the P5.
I hope he stays and gets to ball with us one more year.
I know that. I'm just not ready to accept that he's gone. Let me grieve my own way!Oh stop it, kids always say that and never stay.
If we want to finish above 6th we need him. Come on paulsen get rid of one of your project players please. D a d d y
After those injuries it is highly likely he will never return to peak form (I.e one million examples). Kid wouldn’t drive this year because of injuries and that’s the best part of his game. I don’t think he’s starting at a good P5. Definitely good enough to contribute to a good P5. But the best Kier is more than likely not coming back everKier is absolutely good enough to start on a good P5. Dude takes a break (no pun intended) for one year and everyone forgets what a monster he can be. Flaws in his game, of course, but not every P5 guard is a future NBA prospect.
Also, hey remember when everyone wanted to come back and we would have two more players than scholarships? The athletics department would "find a way".
To that I said, watch we'll start next season with an open scholarship. Hate to say . . .
Lotta posts on here not gonna age well lol.
I can’t wait to see how the Paulsen bandwagon reconciles their feelings with this and how last season was lost because Kier wasn’t on the team and next year will be the year. Won’t be surprised to go in with an open scholarship at this point.
