#FireHewitt ....it's a thing on twitter, now lets make it a reality.
So, about that...that might become a little more difficult as well if one of the other amendments passes and gains traction:
“If you choose to have highly compensated coaches … then pay for that out of private donations, foundations and booster clubs,” Norment said. “Don’t be putting that on the backs of students for whom college affordability is an issue.”
Cox said his amendment is a “first step” toward a system that provides a way to measure costs of athletics programs and their affect on affordability for students. He said he was surprised to learn that while only 3 percent of students participate in intercollegiate athletics, 12 percent of student fees go to funding them. “I just thought that there is really a need to look at a way to lessen the student fee portion” of athletics funding, said Cox, whose sons are all involved in athletics."

I hope this guy realizes exactly what he's proposing:
vcu student fee subsidies: 75.51%
ODU student fee subsidies: 78.91%
GMU student fee subsidies: 78.71%
NSU student fee subsidies: 86.01%
Longwood student fee subsidies: 85.38%
Radford student fee subsidies: 87.75%
And my guess is if something like this passes, these schools will cut their sports offerings to the bare minimum to keep DI and Title IX compliant, then cut their budgets to the bone to make sure they can pay their football and basketball coaches.
St. Louis's last field goal in overtime sums up the entire Paul Hewitt era for me. Quick synopsis:
McCall gets the ball in the left corner. *Two* Patriots run at him to close out. This indicates confusion with Hewitt's defensive scheme, since you never want two guys to close out on a shooter 20+ feet from the basket.
So McCall, in the left corner, sees the two guys closing him out. Problem is neither Patriot cuts off the baseline, so McCall puts the ball on the floor, takes the baseline and hits an easy layup with the paint wide open.
Confusion with defensive scheme + poor fundamentals (giving him the baseline) = awful coaching. Fire Hewitt.
Or how about two consecutive Rob Loe 3-pointers on the exact same play?
Hard to disagre with anything said there, but I did get a chuckle out of Elfin referring to Arledge as 'burly."
wow, didn't realize this.Barring a totally unexpected run through the A-10 Tournament, Mason’s season will end next week and Hewitt will have his fifth losing record in nine years.
I wonder if TOC knew it?wow, didn't realize this.
wow, didn't realize this.
Agreed. Throw away his first 2 cupcakes here and it's now 5/7 losing seasons?!?!What's even worse is that his first two years at Mason have to be considered "winning" seasons even though we didn't even make the NIT in either.
So the tally is 5 losing seasons and 2 sort-of OK seasons out of the last 9.
That's not good.
change the word "losing" to "under achieved" and it's even worsewow, didn't realize this.
