But trends are almost always reality, not coincidences. And since that loss to UConn in the finals, Hewitt's trajectory has been pretty clear.
The folks in the AD who act lije he's not the problem indicate one of three problems
1) They are blind, stubborn, stupid, stupidly proud, or any combination of these unfavorable traits.
2) Hewitt is a truly brilliant con artist
3) They've already had the discussions and decided not to spend the buyout money. In this case, they have to pretend they don't think he's the problem because it is political suicide to openly back a horse with a broken leg.
All three scenarios disgust me, but if I have to choose, I actually hope it's #3

Yep, it's no mortal sin to get emotional in the situation TOC was in and make a bad hire. The mortal sin comes in trying to defend the mistake rather than correcting it.You should extend a hearty thank you as well to the AD who apparently are still sold on Hewitt.
Anyone can make a mistake, it's what you do afterward that counts. And if our AD still thinks Hewitt is the right coach after being under .500 AT HOME over the last two seasons, then they are more delusional than Raider is.
It's a sad state of affairs.
I originally had high hopes for Hewitt. He is a nice man and it would have been great if he could be successful at Mason, but, I am completely disappointed in Hewitt's coaching.
Those that I have talked to in the AD or on committees for the AD act as if I am crazy if I suggest there is a coaching problem. That is very disappointing to me.
While most fans are unhappy with our record, I have come to the conclusion that most fans don't think it is a coaching problem. Even on the boards here, I get the sense that close to half (who have grown fairly quiet except for after the rare win) seem to think there is no coaching problem. And most of those that do think there is a problem choose not say or do anything about it. That is even more disappointing to me.
This has taken all of the fire I have for Mason basketball out of me. I have run out of drive to push for any change. I refuse to support a Hewitt coached basketball team any longer as I know that he is the problem. I can support people deserving of scholarships in a much more cost effective manner. I can find other entertainment and I might actually enjoy it. I can spend time with the "family" of Mason fans that I have become friends with doing other things.
If there is not a change in the off season (or some sort of "plan" for a change), then I am done with Mason basketball until (at a minimum) there is a new coach.
I'm with you, but I won't hold it against the administration if they are reticent to put a $1.4 M buyout together AND go pay a new coach.
Can we create a craigslist add looking for a new coach.
I don't disagree with your point, but it is not as bad as you describe. We have to pay Hewitt the 1.4M whether he coaches (if that is what you call it) or not, so the only additional money you need to find is for the new coaches salary.
