The Paul Hewitt Thread

So Im hoping that with nothing left to really lose, Hewitt really gives up all care and just starts doing anything it takes to win. Constantly trying new things, until something works.

Hes found a player in Jenkins who must be on the floor as long as he can stand. Find the other four who give us the best chance to win (no matter who they are...minus AO), and ride them. If you have to, let them freelance the offense, play a highschool level zone defense...anything.

I just read Dick Patrick's "Around the Rim" column about the women's team on GoMason.com, and I found this comment by a fan pretty familiar. With the women being 0-6 in the A10, things are not looking good for either basketball program.
Wow, didn't realize we are taking an 0-for-A10 with both teams. The Lady Patriots host first place Duquesne (6-1) tonight and probably means 0-7. They then travel to 2nd place Dayton on Saturday. Has there ever been a school to not win a men's or women's conference basketball game in a season?

I am sure you were kidding since you included the , but to be clear, I am not, and never will be, one of the OCM chanters, FWIW. I don't have a problem with others if they feel like it, that is just not me.

Like I said before, I'll give her at least as long to turn around a team that was already bottom of the pack as it has taken our men's coach to take us from a top of the pack team to a bottom of the pack team before I give up on her. All I ask is for signs of improvement. After all, she has to have time to get her gals on the team.

I was informed at the women's game tonight that I am a fair weather fan.

Oh well, some people just don't get it. A Fairweather fan is not at every game cheering for their team, even when the team constantly loses. Sounds like one of those people who say you are not a patriot if you challenge your government.

but you did chant(or yell) "Five Two". Very much appreciated, even if it took me a while to figure out who and where it was coming from.....

Glad you appreciated it. After we did it, I was worried that maybe we had accidentally revealed your secret identity.

Hopefully this week off has helped the team regroup, come together, scheme up some news plays, and will really allow them to hit tomorrow's game with a fresh attitude/new game plan.

HAHAHA just kidding that was a total joke....but sadly something i used to think.

I actually expect Hewitt to have a pretty good plan to attack SLU's weaknesses. However, once SLU makes adjustments, will we?

Walt, I agree Hewitt can be slow to make adjustments, and his inability to respond — as well as his stubbornness — have certainly cost us a few close games. At the same time, I think it's a misconception that making an adjustment to another team's adjustment means you can actually counter it.

Just because a team switches to a zone in the second half against us doesn't mean we have the players to counter that move, especially since our main weaknesses are perimeter shooting and dribble penetration. This is why we often have long lulls.

I agree with you that any chance we have of winning tomorrow will revolve around our ability to attack their weaknesses. I'm just worried that we won't have a counter when they do adjust, not because we don't try to counter but because they are simply the better team.

Moore, Allen, Gray, Jenkins, Williams -- bam zone busting lineup solved.
