Really this all comes down to what the president believes, is basketball important to the university or can GMU live with mediocre badkeball program. Look, Hewitt is on cruise control, his demeanor just exudes, " oh well its just another college basketball game", no emotion, no intensity, just look at all the other coaches on the bench when we play. Its a stark difference. The players at this point are very close to throwing in the towel. Sorry to say, but I looked at the schedule and we could very well lose every game for the rest of the season. How will people react when we lose more than 20 games and finish last. You know we are one and done in the tournament.
Best solution is to bite the bullet now, figure out how to make the numbers work and replace Hewitt. Just go ask the GT folks how it felt. There are too many folks like myself who really love GM and our basketball program, and its a damn shame we made this mistake. Lets move forward, hire Rhodes from vcu. Incidentally I am in Richmond and this program is over the top. What spirit and enthusiasm all over the city for their team. Billboards, TV commercials, its amazing. But my heart is with Mason and that's why it hurts so much. I dread to here the final score of this week's game, which is sold out, standing room only.
Finally, ask yourself what is Hewitt teaching these kids in practice, they don't box out, they play helter skelter, very few fixed screens, no defense down the middle, etc. Oh well, just one frustrated dude.
