If you're right then my thought is that means one more year with Hewitt. The new AD plays the "feeling things out" card and then can conveniently dump him with the smaller buyout.

A new AD will be a much more important hire than a new coach and a much scarier prospect.

You're assuming that they would hire some new blood to give our athletic department a kick in the @ss - my guess is they would hire someone from within and it would be the same old song and dance.

so sick of this "his players" talk. jeff jones inherited a 5 win team and they look better than mason right now

You're right, but my only hope would be that Cabrera would see the Mickey Mouse operation that things have become and would clean house.

No, they don't...that game last night was amateur hour for both teams. Neither team wanted to win that game. The only reason ODU won is because Mason put them on the line 45 freaking times.

So, I was watching the women's game yesterday and noticed how there was great team spirit on the court, on the bench and the coach was actually coaching the players even when they were down by 20. They made a nice little run in the last 3 minutes or so, and you would have thought they had won the national championship there was so much team spirit.

I came up with another crazy idea that we could implement without costing us another dime. Let's swap coaches immediately. Hewitt coaches the Women's team and Milleson coaches the men. I hate to do that to the women's team, but the Men's team has to be the focus.

What is the upside of this:
We get a better coach for our Men's team.
It does not cost us any more money
We would get massive press. The liberal media would go gaga over us having a woman coach our men's team
We might see a spike in attendance because of the notoriety it would generate
Hewitt might quit and that would free us up if Milleson does not work out

Is there really any risk with this idea?

Equal? Is that better? So, Hewitt inherited an NCAAT team that won a game - three years later they are equal to a team that won 5 games in a very watered-down CAA last year.

It's scary, isn't it? I've been saying this program is starting to resemble JMU's more and more.

Really this all comes down to what the president believes, is basketball important to the university or can GMU live with mediocre badkeball program. Look, Hewitt is on cruise control, his demeanor just exudes, " oh well its just another college basketball game", no emotion, no intensity, just look at all the other coaches on the bench when we play. Its a stark difference. The players at this point are very close to throwing in the towel. Sorry to say, but I looked at the schedule and we could very well lose every game for the rest of the season. How will people react when we lose more than 20 games and finish last. You know we are one and done in the tournament.

Best solution is to bite the bullet now, figure out how to make the numbers work and replace Hewitt. Just go ask the GT folks how it felt. There are too many folks like myself who really love GM and our basketball program, and its a damn shame we made this mistake. Lets move forward, hire Rhodes from vcu. Incidentally I am in Richmond and this program is over the top. What spirit and enthusiasm all over the city for their team. Billboards, TV commercials, its amazing. But my heart is with Mason and that's why it hurts so much. I dread to here the final score of this week's game, which is sold out, standing room only.

Finally, ask yourself what is Hewitt teaching these kids in practice, they don't box out, they play helter skelter, very few fixed screens, no defense down the middle, etc. Oh well, just one frustrated dude.

While I think its unfair to say that Hewitt inherited an NCAA caliber team ( no Hancock/DJ suspension) there is no doubt that this years team is worse than last years. This is whats most troubling to me. We have basically the same roster yet we've gotten worse? Theres no explanation for this other than Hewitt is failing. I still think that with more roster turnover we can improve, I don't think Hewitt is ever going to lead us to the top of the A10 or the NCAA tourney. If he can't bring us to the promise land he needs to go. Also as noted above his lack of fire both during the game and in the pressers are infuriating to me, I want to jump through the computer and check for a pulse.

I don't want TOC to hire the next coach. El Presidente had better get off Twitter and stop attending pro-affirmative action rallies and do his damn job. Fire TOC - as I called for when he let Coach L get away - and get someone competent in to right the ship.

Who has Hewitt worked for to cut his teeth? Steve Lappas? And where is Steve Lappas coaching? Exactly nowhere. Good coaches come from a good strong tree. Not a fugly weed in the ground.

My family stopped buying their season tickets this year. My little brother went to GT and saw the Hewitt train wreck. My dad's position was why pay for something that we already know will be bad. I can't argue.

Hewitt needs to go now. He is destroying Mason basketball. I will not go to another game until he is gone.

Silly me - I was actually optimistic coming into this year after the CBI run. I learned pretty quickly not to be optimistic about a win during games - even if GMU builds a double digit lead. I'm learning not to be optimistic about long term prospects under Hewitt too. Even if we had a bunch of top 100 guys coming in, All the negative aspects of Hewitt's coaching will do Mason in.

I'm coming down from NY for the St. Joe's game. Under past circumstances, I'd be psyched for the game. I'm still looking forward to it, it's a chance to hang out with my brother who lives in Fairfax. I'm staying at the Mason Inn, which is quite cheap now that that it's being converted into a dorm. So that'll be cool. As for the game, I'll do my best to stay on an even keel. Why get upset over the ugly basketball I know will be played?

I think our situation is quite similar to GW's during the last years of Karl Hobbs.

There was a faction of their fan base that wanted to keep Hobbs just to avoid losing recruits -- especially Copes!!!! -- and keep their current players from transferring.

Well, they lost Pellom to Memphis and Kromah to UConn, and unfortunately lost Copes to us, but they got a damn good coach in Lonergan. And now they're 12-2 and top-25 in the RPI with several sophomores in the rotation.

The point is obvious: Players will come and go for various reasons. But keeping players/recruits doesn't matter if they're being poorly coached. College hoops is a coach's game and always has been.

Didn't Hewitt team beat our GMU team in Puerto Rico? He CAN WIN!
We got some really bad players...two of which are Hewitt's fault. Let all the crap that was previously recruited leave, then we can judge the man.
Its hard to do..i know
