The Paul Hewitt Thread

So that is what you want for your/our school? Thats what you are ok with?

I find your bitching pretty amusing, especially when you try to throw it back at people on an online message board who you think aren't complaining at the appropriate decibel level-- as if that has any bearing on what's going to happen with the program.

But I get it. You like to argue with people who agree with you.

Here's how I imagine a conversation with you in person goes:

"Man, Hewitt sucks"

"BRO YOU AREN'T DOING IT RIGHT"

It's refreshing, really.

You're at anger right now. Hell, maybe you're stuck on anger. I don't know. You're young and have more fight than some of us. Your cubicle hasn't closed in on you yet. Time moves a little slower. Enjoy it. Just realize that some of us are in a different place right now.

Depression...

Maybe even acceptance.

Please, noooooooooooooo

My wife usually leaves the room when I'm watching Mason games because I just "throw things and yell" (allegedly).

But lately, I have watched in silence. She just sits there on her phone. But I was laughing like a maniac watching the last 7 or 8 minutes of the Penn game. It was cathartic. She only looked up once to provide some sage commentary:

"this team is stupid"

Yeah, I had very little to say at the game yesterday. Pretty much I looked like Hewitt most of the game, holding my head with my hands in disbelief.

I feel sorry for my friends in the seats near me, though. We were talking about the tournament and I pointed out there is reasonable chance we play on Wednesday (I would guess around 30% given current level of play), and a really good chance that we don't even make it to Friday (I'd say that is close to about 75%). After I showed them our schedule for the rest of the way and asked them to point out which games they thought we were likely to win from here on out, they struggled to pick even 3 or 4, it was kind of pitiful to see the sadness come over their faces. They had not even realized there was a Wednesday game and had made reservations only for Thursday. I felt really bad, like I had run over their dog or something.

This perfectly describes my usual Mason basketball experience -- either in-person or via TV -- over the past 2-plus seasons.

I used to get so fired-up for our games, I was borderline insane. Screaming at the TV? There were games that I could've thrown the TV through the hole I punched in the wall. My language was so consistently offensive, my wife exiled me to my home office so the kids would stop asking her what MFing MFer meant.

But I can't invest that kind of emotional energy anymore in something I know is ultimately going to let me down. Most games, I just sit there and quietly shake my head at the befuddling stupidity of it all.

It's sad, really.

Maybe I was speaking in tongues, but Im a bit confused why that quote was misinterpreted by just about everybody who read it. Or that anybody on here would take something that serious on the message board.....were all fans that have really miniscule to no say in anything. Who doesnt know this?

Like I said, it wasnt to incite a riot to join me and it wasnt about Tom or his ability to change or do anything at all.....it just a yes or no answer. Talking to Tom off the boards, I really do agree with most his stance and quite frankly am moving in the direction of apathy and acceptance myself. Last season I really got annoyed with Hewitt and the product, this year it has sunken in that the reality is short of burning down the campus Hewitt will be here through his contract. Acceptance.

Do I think Hewitt is a poor coach? Yes. Do I think he will get fired? No. Does it bum me out? Meh, at this point it feels right where the AD likes it. Does having to find silver linings in sneaking a win over Penn make me sad for the program? A little, but its more humorous now. Do I want more? Yes. Will we have to wait for "more" for 2 more years? Probably

Its 15 degrees outside, I just got married, my college bball team sucks, and the Niners are in the playoffs. It aint that bad. But it could be worse, I could be a Redskin fan.

Yeah I hear ya. But don't worry-- I'm sure we'll all feel worse once we get about halfway through A10 play this season.

And yes, the Redskins are dumb.

I went to the GA Tech-UMD game today. I asked some of the Tech fans if they wanted to bring Hewitt back to Atlanta with them and I was laughed out of the section.

That doesn't surprise me, but did they say how they feel about Brian Gregory? I know he's off to a better start this year, but they can't be thrilled with his first few seasons.

I felt it coming. The stench of that loss crept over me even before Anali's tapdance.
I was so upset that I walked home with about 7 minutes left...could see where the game was going. I was screaming like a maniac anyway, upsetting gmutom (and my wife).

You didn't upset me. I thought it was funny, especially when I heard you ended up walking home. I wish our players showed as much heart as you did that night. haha

So no longer thinking we traded in an older used car for a much younger model with better gas mileage?

Witty as always while hiding behind all of your fake screen names, right, Quentin Hugh Akston Daniels. I have no problem admitting I was encouraged by the hire after feeling the loss of Coach L's departure. It just shows how petty you are that you have to come here after a loss to dig up old threads.

Hey, Rhody beat LSU tonight. Looks like the other A-10 coaches have their team improving as the season progresses. GMU is the odd team out. Thanks TOC!

I watched ND beat Duke today and the overwhelming thought was how ridiculously competitive that conference is becoming. The gap between that game and the level Mason is playing right now hasn't been this big in at least a decade.
