The Paul Hewitt Thread

My family stopped buying their season tickets this year. My little brother went to GT and saw the Hewitt train wreck. My dad's position was why pay for something that we already know will be bad. I can't argue.

Hewitt needs to go now. He is destroying Mason basketball. I will not go to another game until he is gone.

Man....each game goes by, I feel the obvious choice is obvious. However, I have 100% zero faith in the proper thing being done.

Root for Mason to lose every single game, then. If they got 7-23 there's a chance TOC will be forced to make the right decision.

I honestly don't care if we lose Mayimba, Lockett, Porter, Holloway, Marko or anyone else if we fire Hewitt. It's not like he's going to get them to play as a cohesive unit anyway.

The first part is kinda extreme, but I hear you on the second part. I fully expect Lockett, and Mayimba by year two to be bouncing the ball off their foot, fouling like its going out of style, throwing the ball out of bounds and generally looking like they arent sure if they are at the right game/location while on the floor.

The guys I'm most frustrated with at this point are the Coach L recruits. Some of the younger guys are actually pretty good team players. I still would like us to land a true PG and a scorer - hoping either Lockett or Mayimba could be one (although I don't think they are). Not saying they are bad players, but it seems like we keep landing the same style of player.

Part of me wants to see what Hewitt can do next year with all of his players, the other part of me wonders if it will really matter.

This has been my mindset as well, but we're going to be even worse next year with Sherrod and Allen gone. I was thinking that Holloway and Gray could fill the void, but that's obviously not going to be the case.

I'm admittedly patient to a fault, but I'm starting to agree with the overall sentiment that instead of getting better we've actually regressed this season. I could put up with one or even two mediocre seasons if I felt like we were building toward something bigger down the road, but it's pretty unrealistic to think that four freshman and four sophomores are going to make an impact in 2015-16.

Call me optimistic - or just plain stupid, but I do think there is a chance we could be better next year. Of course, that would mean that Hewitt knew what he was doing putting this roster together with his guys - something that I'm not willing to put money on.

That's the thing, after next season we will have a definitive answer to Hewitt and what he's been doing the past three years. The question is do we want to wait that long? How much more damage can be done?

Let's face it......the writing is on the wall - TOC better be doing a coaching search now. Get a line of candidates set up for consideration - this is not going well. Losing to ODU in basketball is inexcusable. Period.

My thoughts exactly on the recruits. Who cares who we get? They won't be better Gani Lawal, Derrick Favors, or Chris Bosh, that's for sure.

I still say TOC retires this year to wash his hands and leaves the mess for the next AD.
If you're right then my thought is that means one more year with Hewitt. The new AD plays the "feeling things out" card and then can conveniently dump him with the smaller buyout.

If he's doing that then he better also be lining up the imaginary line of boosters that can pay the over 1M buyout on the contract.

Gunnie, I had the same thoughts, but have come to the conclusion that it is not the OCM recruits as much as it seems to be time spent in the Westhead, er, I mean Hewitt system. There seems to be a good correlation between how poorly our guys play and how many seasons they have played under Hewitt.

Who on our current roster has actually improved under Hewitt? Maybe BA, maybe Holloway? Even those two are debatable with their inconsistent play. Who has gotten worse, well, that would seem to be just about everyone else. The freshman don't seem to have been under him long enough to be broken yet. I fully expect them to start showing signs of cracking next year.
