"The Patriots being good again makes me nostalgic for 2006, back when our leaders believed in climate change and fake news meant a hilarious story from The Onion. (Sean McLernon)

Mason takes down Northern Iowa in the “Teams You Never Want to Face in the Early Rounds of the NCAA Tournament Classic.” (Jared Kotler)

I asked my Magic 8 Ball if the Patriots were good, and it said, “Cannot predict now. How can you lose to Towson and Mount St. Mary’s but then turn around and beat Penn State?” Wow, Mattel is getting really specific this Christmas. (Chris Olson)

George Mason has impressive back-to-back wins at Penn, Penn State, PenFed Federal Credit Union, and Colonial Penn Life Insurance. (Andy Minor)

Forget building new roads into the MGM Casino; if George Mason continues this seven-game win streak, the area’s real traffic problem will be getting to the Patriot Center. (Michael Freeman)

George Mason can attribute their surprising victories in Pennsylvania to assistant coach Kellyanne Conway. (Ted Wheeler)

'Not one. Not two. Not three. Not four. Not five. Not six, but seven straight and counting.' – LeBron James regarding George Mason’s return to dominance. (Jake Legere)

George Mason has won seven in a row, including back-to-back wins against Penn St. and U Penn. Watch out Bic, you’re next. (Clay Mowry)

I don’t know if Dave Paulsen told his team that Santa Claus is watching or what, but this seven-game hot streak has been impressive. (Brian Hoysa)"

Is there an easier way to find the Atlantic 11 poll? Ever since Bezos took over Washington Post, their website has been really hard to navigate.

I just plug it into google and hit "news". I don't like dealing with the posts site.

It was. but no matter, click on it a few times. I'm presuming that the Post keeps track of such things so perhaps it's a way of insuring that they cover more of our games. I've been impressed with Goff's coverage of us over the years and it's important for the powers-that-be to realize that there's a literate fan base out here in Fairfax craving some notoriety for our Patriots.

There wasn't much to cover during the Virus years so it's not a shocker that WAPO sent us to the coverage wilderness. I think those days are behind us

I understand what you're saying. But, as with most newspapers these days, there have been cutbacks. That leaves us competing with GW for Goff's coverage. Maryland and Georgetown will always have regular reporters assigned to their games. Not so for us and GW. And we're both out of luck when soccer (at all levels) is in season.

Let's not forget that this headline crystallized for "outsiders" what those on the these boards had been thinking. Likely made it easier for Brad Edwards to pull the plug on Hewitt with a year left on his contract:

It means nothing and is all relative to strength of schedule but we currently sit in first place. Savor it lol.

Here is @JFeinsteinBooks on @MasonMBB & @GW_MBB, the two DC area teams no one is talking about, but should be. http://bit.ly/2h9VwYU

"POTENTIALLY OVERRATED: GEORGE MASON (9-3)

Look, I’m saying POTENTIALLY here. I’m not saying Mason is overrated and in fact I’m VERY impressed with how they’ve won their last eight games. George Mason has won their last four games by an average margin of victory of 21.5 points. It doesn’t matter who you are playing, that’s an impressive number. The reason I put Mason in this category however is the fact remains seven of their nine wins have come against sub-150 kenpom teams with a strength of schedule that ranks 255th nationally. They’ll play No.326 Prairie View before hosting vcu to start A-10 play, a team they actually beat at home last season."

Matt does have a point. Looks like we'll just have to prove him wrong on Dec. 30th.

My only quibble is I don't know how you can be "overrated" without being "rated."

Yeah, being picked to finish 12th in a 14 team league isn't exactly an overwhelming endorsement.

I suppose his point is don't read too much into our eight game winning streak, which I think everyone on these boards would agree with. I still think finishing 8-10 or 9-9 in A-10 play should be considered an accomplishment for this team.

On the other hand, if Mason finishes their first four games at 3-1 (which is possible given St. Joe's current form and the two home games), the rest of the A-10 better watch out.

Haha I don't think the Atlantic 11 counts. And I don't think anyone on these boards outside of Carolina really thinks we'll make the big dance. That said, we are playing good ball and it's exciting for the first time in a long time. So I'm quite happy with this OOC stretch. Looks like the guys are gelling, too.

I don't think we'll be a force in the A10 - but I also think we'll finish better than 12th. Maybe a 7-8?

Are you confusing the Atlantic 11 ranking with the A10 Talk ranking?

Are you confusing the Atlantic 11 ranking with the A10 Talk ranking?

So the A-10 Talk people are the ones who rated us, then they subsequently pointed out that we could be overrated?

I guess that means if we're overrated, it's their fault.

Ah - I was. 5 seems high for the A10 Talk ranking. But I think we could end up there. A lot is still up in the air. Not out of the realm of possibility, but also not likely, imo.

But it was also a power ranking. And it's hard to argue that we aren't 5th right now with that context.
