I went to the Georgetown-DePaul game yesterday and watching their pep band really made me appreciate the Green Machine. They had about 10 members and no dance team or cheerleaders for support. Kudos to our students in the band and cheer/dance teams for their awesome work and being there during the break.

They really are head and shoulders above. My favorite moment was getting yelled at by some old hag from UR at the Governor's Classic in 2012 when we noted that one of their **3** cheerleaders (note: we were IN RICHMOND) was going all "Left Shark", totally lost in her routine. Then the Masonettes went on and her old man said "wow, their gals are a lot more shapely than ours". I thought she was going to blow a gasket...and then came the buzzer beater.

Not specifically Green Machine related, but vcu's band director is leaving after 18 years with the Peppas. Them losing Shaka was one thing, but Kopacsi's attitude and nature cuts across rivalry lines. He and Doc Nix are good friends and together they've created a culture where both bands respect each other. While the Peppas are a strong enough organization to recover from this, they've lost a big part of themselves. Hopefully whoever they bring in keeps them going strong. After all, we need a game that has the Green Machine and the Peppas there at the same time!

Seems like Kopacsi is a diva. He did the same shit several years ago and got a contract out of it. He's obviously taking it to social media to get fan support to urge the school to comply with his demands. His demands must be irrational for them to let him go.

In fairness to him (I hate siding with a vcu person, but) it was a part time position. Granted, it was a highly paid part time position, but at the end of the day it was still a part time gig. If a school the size of vcu can't afford to pay the going rate for a band director (roughly twice what they were paying) they don't deserve to have him.

He doesn't have a bachelors. Not gonna get a faculty position at any university -- even vcu-- without an undergrad degree.

Anyway this guy is second to only Doc Nix... he deserves and should get better. As long as he's not acting like an entitled prick, which unfortunately it seems like he is, vcu should bend over backwards for him. But any person that is willing to say "F U vcu" is okay in my book.

vcu was paying him $35K for a part-time gig and also paying for the classes toward his degree.

Not a bad deal for a guy who isn't qualified academically to teach music courses, even at a second-rate school like vcu.

Now vcu's AD appears to have hired the ex-band leader's former assistant. A pretty solid FU to the departed diva, I'd say.
