Searching for Vaughn Gray

Gray is the best scorer on the team and has the most accurate outside shot and has proven that in his limited court time. I think the only reason he stayed is that he has a little girl which I'm guessing lives in the area. I just wish that the students would start a Vaughn Gray chant..if they even know who he is.

Its doubtful he would answer the question as hes very "to the chest" with most topics. The answers in the past have included " Not locked in" and "defense issues" with regards to Gray.

In regards to Edwards, and I have no inside information on this, it could just be that Hewitt feels hes overmatched by A-10 talent and putting him in doesn't give them the best chance to win against mid to upper tier A-10 talent. Not that Marquise Moore or Bryan Allen are complete answers at PG, because they aren't, but giving Moore the chance to gain experience probably helps the team in the long run. Putting Allen at the position gives the chance that he can make a few plays even if out of position.

Well we certainly don't know what is going on but thats all anyone has ever gotten out of Hewitt when asked about Gray. He was fairly mum on the Arledge issue too.

An assistant Coach told me a while back that Gray has had issues on Defense. Not picking his man up, not moving his feet and getting in a great defensive position. I think he tends to get lost in the player switches on D.

But I'd like to see him get 20-25 mins a game and see what he can do without having that "getting yanked" feeling over his head once he does something bad. It can't get any worse, so why not give him his shot.

I agree with Jim. Its at the point, and has been at the point where Gray no matter how bad he could be should be getting run. AO is an absolute train wreck yet he continues to get tossed out there. I am 100% positive that Vaughn Gray could at the very least give us what AO gives us. Holloway is limited on both ends due to his size, and Im pretty sure Gray could give us the exact same as Holloway most games. Why he is still glued to the bench makes no sense.

This just smells of a personal issue and its BS. Were 0-6 in the A10, were not good enough to have our crappy coach not playing guys who could help us because he wants to stick it to him.

Last year in a post game interview for a game we somehow won (I think we held off a last minute charge from a decent opponent-- I forget who) Hewitt was asked who the difference-maker was in the last two minutes of play.

His answer was Anali.

It was a real head-scratcher at the time-- which is why I remember it. AO has zero point, zero attempts, zero fouls-- maybe even zero touches. Hewitt went on and on about how AO's drive was the main reason we won. It was all complete BS.

Now it makes perfect sense. You're either Hewitt's guy or you aren't. What a great way to rip apart a locker room...

but no that doesn't explain my tweets... my tweets come from the blatant display of politics and unfairness that my brother is caught in without any explanation... mainly because Hewitt has none and he's still trying to prove a point by saying what and who he has can get the job done (someone tell me how that's working out)... there's no explanation how he can go from the Oklahoma game coming 6th or 7th off the bench to the next game in Hawaii he can't see the floor... the points the team is losing by is clearly what he can contribute, and some... but hey what do i know?

and to answer the questions as to why he didn't transfer.... Vaughn loves the school outside of basketball and loves the people around him in Fairfax. he gets fans that tell him to keep his head up because they know something isn't right, and believe me his spirits are high and he's ready to hit the floot IF that happens...

aside from that... i want to see mason win, but under PH's regime that's not gonna happen. Look at every team that's winning in the A-10 and every other conference and compare them to ours. we're lacking the evident chemistry with the players amongst themselves, there's no chemistry btwn the players and the coaching staff... everyone is playing just to survive to stay on the court instead of playing to win the game and it shows... What relationship does Hewitt even have with the players? i doubt he has any... this is why vcu soared over the past couple of years because the believe in whatever Shaka Smart is selling and they'll run through a brick wall for him... and in my opinion i don't think they have better talent than our GMU team... but you can see the bond he has with his players and the chemistry they have with each other... we're too busy competing against each other

For the record, alot of us were very excited about Vaughn and really looking forward to watching him play. I still want to see him play, because he is a very talented player and could really help us out.

There is a large number of us who are very confused and upset that he doesnt get any run and it seems that it indeed is simply because there is a relationship issue with Hewitt....which is extremely dissapointing. Especially considering some of the....."lesser" options that continually trot out there and do nothing.

Glad to hear he is staying upbeat, and is ready when his number gets called, and I sure hope that is soon.

Blewitt has personal reasons as to why he doesn't play Vaughn Gray and truthfully only B***hes act like this but it's Blewitt azz on the line. Fact: since Gray's benching the team has gone 3(w)-13(l) so do the math.....GET THIS CLOWN AZZ want to be coach out of Fairfax Va.....ASAP Ps: Take those sorry azz assistants with you...BLEWITT

NoCliche87, thanks for the insight. We figured it had to be something personal, because it's not like Vaughn could do worse than the players he would be replacing. Somebody mentioned that it was an issue of defense or attention to detail, but I'm not buying that anymore because Sherrod and Allen are horrible on defense and make mental mistakes constantly.

Any idea if your brother will stick around on the team next year. I know as fans we all says "Oh, so and so should transfer if he's not happy...," but it's never that easy when a kid gets attached to the university and his friends outside of the basketball program. Regardless of where he ends up, I think I speak for everybody in wishing him the best. He deserves better than he has gotten here.

AAUMan: I'm know I doubted you in the past, but it does seem like you were on to something about the BS behind the scenes. I just had trouble picture any coach being that petty where he would allow personal grudges to come before the betterment of the team.
