What a great hire for VT. Big time hire. Instant credibility.

Buzz is an excellent recruiter, but I don't know that I'd consider him a great X's and O's guy. His best teams at Marquette were ones that just thrived on having a bunch of long athletes who could drive and jump over people ... sound familiar?

This is true, but he isn't coaching at G Mas.

Maybe Shaka needs 5 star recruits to get past the first weekend. Except, of course, for that one time when he got lucky.

According to several sources aka rumors, it's looking like Shaka Smart to Marquette is a done deal.

Where are you seeing that? Everything I've seen is that the two schools have courted him, but there are no indications at all that he's interested. Marquette would seem like the obvious fit since he is from Wisconsin, but people said the same thing when the Illinois job came up a year or two ago.

I've just seen people talking about it within the last few hours. I personally don't have any inside knowledge on the situation. Just relaying what some reporters and people within the sports world are saying on their social media handles.

Jerry Meyer, Director of Basketball Scouting at 247sports tweeted: "it's very likely to happen and happen soon."

I hate vcu as much as the next guy, but I do feel for their fans having to go through this every season. Most Mason fans remember vividly those pain-staking days when we almost lost Coach L to Providence after our Final 4 run. Thank God we don't have to worry about anybody poaching our coach this season. haha

You don't hate vcu as much as "this" guy.

F those jagoffs.

I hope Shaka leaves and takes a massive, steaming dump on the Siegel Center floor on his way out of town.

Houston's James Dickey has resigned after four seasons with the team. If only Hewitt would do the same. But, Dickey resigned because of personal family matters.

He went 64-62 at Houston and took the Cougars to the CBI last year (where they lost to us). He had one more year left on his contract.

If Paul Hewitt has a similar season next year (which is likely given what we lost), he will be under .500 in combined CAA/A10 winning percentage (he's at 28-24 now) and probably very near .500 overall (and that's with quite a few cupcake wins over his four years here).

Who is Paul Hewitt?
