As long as we're playing "What if . ." and we are still in the middle of the tournament ...

Say Hewitt does get poached by another school (we can dream), which of the former coaches that are biding time on the sidelines playing TV analyst would you want, if that was the pool of applicants from which to choose our next coach?

There is a reason they are TV analysts. They suck as coaches. NO MORE RETREADS!

Auburn already got the only one I'd want.

Basically...right now we need to shut this board down and erase it. Start over with edited history. Go Tom Sawyer/Painting the Fence.

That way another AD who actually does his homework will think we love Hewitt and want to hire him.

We also need to pin the SFA loss on Mike Rhodes.....

haha yes. they're all horrendous.

Yeah, I covered Seth's VT teams for 5 years. He's a lousy coach and even worse to deal with off the court ... one of those sarcastic A-holes who always tries to make reporters feel stupid for any question they ask.

By the time I was done on that beat, I literally wanted to choke him out -- a total contrast to Beamer, who was among the nicest, classiest coaches I've ever covered.

Everyone here knows how I feel about Hewitt, and I'd give him an unbreakable lifetime contract before I'd ever endorse my alma mater having anything to do with Uncle Fester.

I'd be somewhat OK w/Cliff Ellis.

I know we're just throwing names out there, but I'm begging whoever is ultimately going to make this decision to PLEASE consider hiring someone who doesn't have an AARP card.

Nothing against Ellis personally. I know going "older white guy" certainly worked for us with Larranaga. I just feel like lightning isn't going to strike twice.

IMHO, we need to get a young, high-energy coach who can put our program back on the map from a basketball and PR/marketing perspective.

Not unless he has another son. He isn't the most polished guy.

The funny thing is that the bar has been lowered so much whoever the next guy is in a can't lose situation. If he comes in, goes middle of the pack in the a10 and maybe has a .500 season, we will be talking about building a statue of him!

No, I think the bar has been raised quite high for whoever comes in thanks to Hewitt's destruction.

I think the next guy will actually have a target on his back from day one. He's going to have to build a winning team very fast to satisfy the hardcore fan base.

You never want to follow a legend. You want to follow a bozo. Good news for the next guy.

Maybe it was part of TOCs grand plan....bring in a name to be the flop behind the legend....then turn it around with the next big up rising star....

Perhaps we're just using different terms. The new person will be watched closely to make sure we are on the right track. I don't know if he will have a "target on his back", per se, but he will definitely be watched. When I said the bar has been lowered, I meant that he doesn't have to win a ton of games to "improve". Unfortunately, that's just fact.

What a great hire for VT. Big time hire. Instant credibility.
