GIVING DAY 2023
Dude its been 5 years he is right!!! Dave is a nice guy but who can honestly tell me they are excited for the season???

I’m excited. But then I’m old and suffered through years of atrocious basketball back when even making the NCAA tournament was a pipe dream, much less playing in a Final Four.

Jaire was one of my favorite players and for his sake I hope things work out at TCU. But I wish he had told his dad to pipe down and finished out the season with his team, which clearly could’ve used his help.

Even after the big blowup in Florida, DP and Brad were very generous to let Jaire sit and finish his degree on Mason’s dime so he’d have a full year of eligibility left as a grad transfer (assuming he got the medical redshirt, which he did).

Still, if Jaire’s foot was still bothering him so badly that he couldn’t play, I’m curious why our medical staff didn’t have him in a protective boot like Mar wore (and Kier is currently wearing).

And don’t you find it a little interesting that an injury that had bothered him for more than a year suddenly went away when TCU offered a scholarship? I highly doubt Jamie Dixon would’ve taken him as a grad transfer if there was doubt whether his foot was right.

The whole situation was sketchy as hell.

Jim, he got a medical hardship waiver that required doctor documentation and was approved by NCAA and A10. I’m not here for your conspiracy theories. Sure, maybe him and his family wanted to move on from Mason, he wouldn’t be the first recently.

This conversation is sad, in one thread people defend players claiming we shouldn’t bash young men. In another thread we call a player that gave us almost all he had a quitter. Was it sketchy? Maybe? But to me, it’s just another excuse some of us will use to justify the debacle of last season. Grayer might just be another example of this staff not properly developing a player, forced into a lot of minutes too early and broke down at the end. Hello Otis.

I’ll simply continue to blame and hold accountable the MAN in charge.

I’m game for discussing the scrimmage, expectations on the court etc but this convo took a turn for terrible.

Oh c'mon, so now you're blaming Paulsen for playing Otis and Grayer too much their freshman year? No coach with a depleted roster would keep those kids on a pitch count and hold off development because they're worried about wear and tear three years later.

Yes, it's year 5 and Paulsen should be held accountable but they are coming off their highest finish ever in the A-10. Call for his head all you want but he's here for at least two more years.

I remember when TVs were black and white. Things change, we expect 4K now

Brad asked the administration/donors to pour a lot of money into the program the past few years. The administration/McKay family will be looking for a fall guy if they don’t get results. DP will be the first fall guy, then Brad.

Sure ok, would love to see evidence of Brad doing that. Every AD touts fundraising, if we have alumni demanding answers who had deep pockets I'd love to see it. The McKay family is a business partner who essentially buys advertising. They don't give a flying f about on the court production. Mason making the tournament gonna make them a few hundred grand more in car sales? I doubt it.

We did raise $400,000 less money in 2018 than we did in 2017. With a contribution base as low as ours, that's a big drop (something like a decrease of 30%). Last giving day kind of shows us where the alumni/giving base views men's basketball (and it ain't in a good place).

Paulsen needs to pull something off in this season.

No this convo took a turn for the “real.” You just don’t like the message so as usual it’s shoot the messenger.

What’s particularly ridiculous is you now want to blame the coach for playing Otis and Jaire too much as freshmen.

They both knew what our roster looked like when they signed with Mason. And I’m sure neither complained about being able to play 30 minutes every game from Day 1 — in Jaire’s case it was probably a major selling point because he could’ve prepped and had other options.

But now Dave is responsible for hurting them by forcing them to play minutes they didn’t want to play?

Of all the dumb shit I’ve read on this board, that takes the cake. Congrats!

I thought the McKay family paid the balance for the locker rooms and practice facility. Those facilities have nothing to with advertising.

Whether or not you want to admit it, Grayer leaving the team mid year played a major role in the disappointing season. Also, as others have mentioned, grasping at straws with the "Paulsen played them too many minutes freshmen year" thing is comical. They knew what they were getting into.

Jim you called me a POS for how I treated Reuter last year. Looking back you were probably right about it.. But by calling a kid a "quitter" with ridiculous allegations a medical professional disagrees with (doctors who had to clear him for medical redshirt) is very sad and kind of makes you look like a POS as well.

Do yourself a favor and don't comment on allegations you cannot possibly be positive on. Grayer gave his all for 3 years and seemed to be an active supporter on the bench last year after his season was cut short. Kid doesn't deserve your slander.

do you actually think McKay family or Paisano's or Chick Fila (3 major sponsors) care if we win games or not?!

Who knows. Maybe Mason could have beat Penn, American, and GA Southern with Grayer. Oh wait..

I agree with you that Pisano’s and Chick Fila don’t. But I think the McKay family does. I won’t die on this hill as I have no evidence. Just a hunch.

I’m pretty sure I’m going to trust ByG who has connections to the coach, AD, players and staff over Jim who self admittedly “doesn’t make it to many games” and lives 100 miles away in Richmond. Sorry
