I would imagine once the games start, it will be the 5 guys who are playing and practicing the best. There are lots of ways the staff could choose to go with our top 6 and that’s something we haven’t had in a while.

haha come on Jim, answer the question!

If there is a game 7 GMU should move the Catholic game to the next day and do like some costume contest for students, give away free crap to get them to show up.

first game isn’t until 11/5 so it’s doable. It’s not like Catholic has to travel very far to get here.

If they didn’t think Kier could play the point before he got hurt, can’t imagine they’d put him there when he comes back. I’d say the competition is between AJ and Miller at the 4 and Greene and Miller at the wing, no?

Yes that is my thinking. Two spots for three guys. A good problem to have.

My guess is we will start the season with Hartwell, Greene, Miller, Wilson and Calixte, but the real dilemma rotation-wise is when Kier returns. I have trouble grasping how Miller is not a shoo-in to start on this team regardless, considering he's our second leading returning scorer, top rebounder, most accurate shooter (61 FG%), and hit a third of his 18 3-pt attempts.

I realize defense is obviously important as well, but Miller was also our second best shot blocker last year behind AJ and averaged just under one steal per game (third among returning players). Granted, he could put on some more muscle, but his wingspan does make up for some of his size limitations.

It's too bad that Miller or Greene can't play PF like Folarin or Jon Larranaga, because then Greene, Kier, Miller, Calixte and Wilson could all start. I'm a really big fan of Hartwell's game, too, so I guess it throws a wrench into things if he's not our starting PG. Glad I don't have to make these decisions.

In certain matchups you could see Kier, Greene, Miller, AJ and Calixte out there, but AJ is the 4 in that scenario.

I think there are also scenarios where Mar, AJ and Miller will play together.

That’s why it’s so important that the light has come on for AJ. He gives the staff tons of flexibility to play different lineups around him. Just gotta keep everyone healthy.

I loved Miller and Mar on the court together at tail end of last year. If Mar finds his shooting touch, this could be a deadly scoring combo with Aj, hartwell, Calixte.

I agree with everything you said. I bet kier and Greene spilt time when kier returns.

I don't see any scenario where Kier if healthy doesn't average 30 minutes a game.

Big if, these hairline fractures can linger. Someone has to lose minutes though. I think XJ and Hartwell are locked into sharing the PG spot even when Kier returns. Unfortunately, not too sure what Mar is anymore. Always viewed him as a perimeter player but his shooting form will never allow him to be consistent. It’s unfortunate, because the kid prob has the best b-ball IQ on the team. Always liked him, just not sure where he fits and I don’t think he’s some 6th man scorer type either.

Just my 2 cents, but I see Go as the type of player every winning team needs: an unselfish guy who is willing to play his role without complaining and doesn’t need to put up huge stats to have a significant impact on the game.

He is still a very important part of this team even if he doesn’t start or become an all-A10 level player like he looked to be as a freshman.

Personally, I think he played his best minutes at the 5 during his freshman year. Yes, he’s undersized for that role, and it required lots of help defense. But he was able to use his quickness as an advantage and still put up a fight for rebounds.

For now, I would like to see him backing up Calixte.

I think Mar provides some additional length and athleticism up front, that is needed depending on how the team plays out. He also can cover a shooter with his ability to play "in your shirt defense" and length.

He probably will play behind Miller/AJ/Calixte as needed and as matchups call for it. Hes definitely important to the success of the team, and I think one of the reasons the team struggled at points in the second half of last year was because of his injury.

We have literally 4 tough OOC games... need to win 2 or 3 of them for me to be happy. Can't wait for us to get 18 wins this year but not beat anyone top 75-100 and finish 8th in the A10 and the worshippers on this board will think that is a good think.

Preach!

and this was counting Nebraska and Jax St as being good.. boy was I wrong about that... we have beat 1 good team all year.... NMSU

Despite a couple of bad losses (UC Riverside and North Dakota), Nebraska is 2-2 in the B1G, with home wins over Purdue and Iowa and an OT loss to Indiana on the road.
