Win over Wichita St in the 3rd round, potential matchup with Uconn in the elite 8, Mich. St. bounced in the first round by a lower seed - I like the parallels that are setting up for Coach L and the Canes :)

Forget not a potential showdown with Villanova in the Sweet 16, in a hat tip to 2011.

vcu band director getting entirely too much time stripping down to his superman shirt the past 2 games. Groan. We need to keep them out of the tournament and get Doc Nix some more national exposure!

Meanwhile UNI has blown a 10 pt lead in the last 1:30; 14-2 run in last 43 seconds to send the game into overtime. Struggled getting the ball in bounds.

Larranaga was asked on ESPN about what he learned from when he took Mason to the FF. He didn't really answer the question with any context of when he was at Mason.

GIVING DAY 2023
Watching as many games as I could this weekend, I feel even a little better about us moving forward without Shevon. Not that he wasn't great, but I'm not sure one team I saw play this weekend feeds the ball into the post or has anyone play with their back to the basket. The game has just become so much about spreading the floor and working off high screen and rolls or other dribble penetration. I think that will come so much easier for our guards next year without an anchor down low. The biggest challenge of course is that we'll need shooters in the corners who can make a sagging defense pay.

UNI's collapse was reportedly the largest final minute collapse EVER in NCAA D1 hoops.

I remember UMD blowing a 10 pt lead to Duke with one minute left when J. Williams went off, but this was 12 in 45 sec's. Not at all surprised if it was largest collapse ever.

We blew a 5 point lead vs New Mexico in St. Thomas with about 15 seconds left, this was about 2.5x worse.

As the usual pessimist who likes to revel when things turn out okay......

I actually felt worse after watching the games. It just made me, from the few games I have seen, think our guards and system have a bit of a way to go. Plus, we need someone who can REBOUND aggressively.

Hope Jalen et al can get their "hops" in gear.....

You Tube video of the end of that New Mexico game, if you wish to relive the pain.
Notice the panic on the in-bounds play at the end, leading to a turnover, because we had no timeout in our back pocket. A trademark of the Virus era.

UNI's meltdown last night was epic. Just as I was congratulating myself for having put them in the sweet sixteen in my bracket, absolutely all the wheels fell off. One out-of-bounds play after another!

I can't imagine how awful I would have felt had I been one of their fans. As it was, I had a knot in my stomach from watching it. "Oh the humanity"!
