Ok, great win for the Villanova Wildcat professional basketball team. So I'm watching them dismantle Miami and couldn't stop noticing that some of the players looked like NBA veterans. Did a little investigating and found out that three of their stars, (Jenkins, Ochefu, Reynolds) are 23/ 24 years old! That's right 24. Ok let's not be so naïve, we are talking about millions of dollars for these big time universities. I should not be surprised. My commentary is the NCAA is bunch of crap. These are supposed to be college age students, who go to class and represent their universities. Personally I think it is disgraceful, and a travesty. It's about time we call them for what they are, professional players, who could care less about education. I say pay them for their services, and stop the pretending. Unfortuately, this is the state of the game. Just too much damn money involved.

Didn't mean to pick on Villanova, because I'm sure all these sweet 16 teams are carrying much older players. Oh and by the way no age limit according to the NCAA rules. I guess I'll just wait for MLB, at least we know what we are getting.

If I remember correctly, isn't the NCAA limit 25, upon which an athlete must be granted a waiver? George Evans (and Robert Dykes I think) were granted waivers for military service, which I feel is totally legit. Also, football and basketball players are often a little older at schools like BYU because Christian mission work is required (usually at least 2 years). You do raise an interesting question though, because it is said that physical peak is often reached at 27 for athletes, so someone at 24 might be closer to max performance in their sport.

Anybody else mad at God we reach our athletic peak at age 27-28, when we don't have time to play sports, but we reach our sexual peak at 18, when we have no idea what we're doing?

Speak for yourself homie - Pikapp is laying pipe like Robert Plant in 1969 but with the artistic depth and nuance of Michaelango at 45. Like blue steel - a cat couldn't scratch it.

Now that Maryland has been knocked out of the NCAA Tourney, the talk was who was leaving and who was staying. Really!!! I know I didn't see a lot of their games this year, but what I did see didn't show me anybody was ready for the NBA. Melo is OK, but disappears at times and the "1st Round Lock" Diamond Stone is horrible on defense and can't get open when playing against someone with similar size. And don't get me started on Carter. Since I know you guys watch quite a bit of basketball, though like me mostly Mason (and in my case 6th and 8th grade CYO), does anybody else think that a lot of people are overrating the NBA readiness of the Terripans.

Note, sorry to bring it up here, since it is not Mason, but I trust your opinion more than the people on the Terripan boards.

UVA falling apart at the moment. Not sure many in the country had Syracuse reaching the Final Four (maybe a bunch of Cuse fans).

Totally unexpected. Ugh - gotta give them credit, but I didn't want 'Cuse to win this game. Guess they embraced all the hate they were getting for even making the tournament.

You know, I should have gone with my gut instinct...I had Villanova, Oklahoma, UNC and UVA in my original Final Four with UNC winning it all. Why did I have to second, third, and fourth guess myself?

Oh well, the nature of the beast that is March Madness.

Syracuse's women also in the FF. Haven't UConn men's and women's programs both won it all in the same year? Extremely unlikely to happen given the fact UConn's women win every game by 50 points.

Still, two unexpected FF appearances for Syracuse in the same year. Pretty crazy.

Kinda wish I hadn't lost my fandom for 'Cuse. The arrogance of some 'Cuse fans I know turned me off in '06. (Them "GMU is in the top 25 and not Syracuse???" Me - "why not.") Going to a GMU game years ago with a Syracuse fan cousin and then to watch Syracuse at a bar after the game. Cuz - "Time to watch some real basketball." Add some of the unsavory aspects of the Syracuse program and I've been rooting against them for years now.

Oh well - probably just thin-skinned. Davidson fans in NC deal with the same thing. Wichita St. in Kansas, GMU fan in VA for that matter etc.etc.etc.

Just can't bring myself to root for them. Gonna be an annoying week in upstate ny.

I'll root for Syracuse over UVGay any day of the week. The most annoying fans are UVgay. Thats what they get, peace the f out!

Yeah - it's all relative. I'd have probably been rooting for Syracuse too if I were a lifelong Virginian. Wherever you live, if you're a big fan of a "mid-major", there's gonna be some "major" fans driving you nuts.

Didn't know where to put this, but the I watched a little of Morehead St. @ Nevada playing in the finals of the highly respected CBI tournament last night. No more AXS TV I guess - it was on ESPNU.

I was impressed with the Nevada fans, the arena was almost full and it was very loud.
