Name the next head coach (a GMUJim tribute album)

Trying to run the Princeton offense with our personnel might be an even bigger goat f*ck than what we currently have.

(So while I've never actually seen goats f*cking, I guess I'm voting no.)
I think Porter, Holloway, and Jenkins would all be good fits in a Princeton offense. And, if Georgetown can put Henry Sims in the high post and have him facilitate, Thompson can do it for a year.

I'm not putting in any system that moves our best rebounder and only effective post scorer away from the basket.

EDIT: But I'm surprised Hewitt hasn't already tried it.:vomit:

Not to mention I'm not sure I want the guy with a grand total of 1 assist in 17 games to act as our facilitator.

LOL, I mean I hear that. I'm just saying that our personnel is not necessarily bad for a Princeton offense.

Watching some of American-Army on CBS Sports. They showed some of Zach Spiker's pre game speech to his team as well as an interview at halftime. Don't know much about his X's and O's, but he strikes me as a guy who can really motivate. Young & hungry.

Matter of fact, just saw another live interview just prior to the second half - seems like a real detail oriented guy too. I did just see that his team is only 3-4 in conference overall this year. He's got Army on an upward trajectory though - I know his name has been brought up before.

Hell, I like the American guy too.

He's not an American?

Sorry, bad joke :bricks:

Spiker will make some A10 level program a mighty fine coach one of these days.

I wouldn't be surprised if Fordham went after him once they sh!tcan Pecora.

Very impressive young guy. Edwards needs to have him in the crosshairs.

So, I don't know if I've seen this, but it seems like Brad Brownell might be on the hotseat at Clemson. I don't know about you guys, but I would LOVE to have him at mason, retread or no. His teams always fight fight their guts out.

Here's something to think about with Brownell. Obviously, he was an assistant under Jerry Wainwright, who was an assistant to Dave Odom, who was the boss of your current AD at USC.

No offense to Brownell, but I sincerely hope Edwards institutes a new rule: No more hiring coaches on their way down the ladder.

We've done it twice and it has failed miserably both times.

Brownell choked big time in 2006 against GW in the NCAA tournament.

I'm pretty sure this board would melt down if we hired another ACC coached who had just been fired....I'd like to get a fairly young, successful head coach from a mid major school ala Scott Cherry type, or a lead assistant from a major conference school. I actually think Jeff Capel would do well here.

Unless he has made major tactical improvements during his second stint with Coach K, I'd say a big no thanks to Capel.

Good recruiter, but his teams at Oklahoma were a mess of mostly talented underachievers.

I think we've had enough of that from Hewitt to last us a lifetime.

Yea I figured the more time you spending sitting next to K the better coach you'll be. But I certainly understand the hesitation with Capel based on what happened at OU.

The argument for Capel is that in 5 years he got to two NCAA appearances and an Elite Eight. I'd accept those results in Fairfax. Now I know realistically that's no guarantee of anything if we were to hire him, and Oklahoma is different than Mason.

Now there are probably better up and coming assistants at large schools (Jordan) or up and coming coaches at smaller schools (Cherry). I'm just saying.

My list: Jay Larranaga, Scott Cherry, and Brad Underwood

I would think we would be able to get Cherry. The other two would require a good sales job by Edwards and a pocket full of change.

I was never wowed w/him at vcu. Honestly, was pretty surprised that Oklahoma hired him.

Same here. vcu got an upgrade the past three times they hired a coach. Shaka > Grant > Capel

Our history: Hewitt < Larranaga > Westhead = Nestor < Barnes > Harrington
