I remember when Pat Skerry was thought of as a great hire at Towson. But he apparently has not been able to recruit and they are just bad this year.

I still think Skerry is a good coach. Towson has a very young team this year. I think they lost their 4 top scorers from last year. I would imagine it would be tough to recruit out of Towson, even with a new basketball arena.

That's really surprising, with their shiny new arena, successful FCS football program, and proximity to Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Yeah. Not really sure how a recruit wouldn't be interested. What does Mason have to offer (other than conference affiliation) that Towson doesn't?

Not living close to the mean streets where the "The Wire" was filmed. haha

That's fair, I guess. Towson isn't terrible-- and college kids do kind of rule the "downtown" area on weekends. They seem to have a good culture going at the school... Not exactly a dangerous place.

Nothing really, all im saying is that IF he manages to roll off a 20 win season, im for it. Let him have his 5th. ... I do believe there is a middle ground.
Wanted to respond to this, but thought it would be better in a more Hewitt focused thread.

On this, there really is not a good middle ground. If you just "let him have his 5th", then Mason is screwed either way. That would actually be the worst thing Mason could do.

I won't go into the gory details as it has been covered in many other threads, but, if he doesn't have an extension, he won't be able to recruit, dooming future years. There is also the JMU "luck into the tournament on a set of freak circumstances" debacle.

So, Mason really needs to decide if they think he is our guy at the end of this year. If they believe so, then they need to renew him, at least, for a couple years so it does not hamper his recruiting.

If they believe he is not our guy (which is my belief!), then they need to cut ties with him at the end of the year (or slightly sooner because of the ridiculous retention bonus timing).

So, I don't know if I've seen this, but it seems like Brad Brownell might be on the hotseat at Clemson. I don't know about you guys, but I would LOVE to have him at mason, retread or no. His teams always fight fight their guts out.

I lost my Montgomery County league 5th grade girls coaching debut this past Saturday 10-6. So I guess that means I'm out of the running......

Thatz really cute....can he build a program currently in the ashes is the real concern.

Dan Hurley has turned Rhody around in no time. I'd be willing to bet his brother can do the same here. Basketball is in the Hurleys' DNA.

His last name alone would get him in living rooms in NYC/NJ/Pa/NE, which is where we're doing a lot of recruiting these days.

Only question is whether he'll need a stop at the A10 level on his way up the ladder. At this point Buffalo to Mason feels a lateral move.

I wouldn't consider a move to an A-10 school with a final 4 in the past 10 years in a major metro area a "lateral" move. Coach L proved success is there for the taking at Mason, you just gotta earn it. It'd be a step up for a lot of talented, young coaches in this country ready to prove themselves.
