You factoring students into this?
There were about 40 students and no. To conclude this tournament was a mistake but Paulsen knows now to never play on one again. Atleast this mistake was ~$25K and not the millions we lost to Hewitt.

What is Phase II for the project? I thought phase I are lockers and caged gym and phase II is the practice facility.

I think there are more people in there on student ID's than you think. I had season tickets but tonight decided that I'd just use my free entry as a grad student. Sat nowhere near the student section. But I cede the point, the revenue sharing will probably make it a wash.

Phase II is adding things like the weight room, film room, etc. The cage gym is the courts that will be in the practice facility. So Phase I is really just a small part of the entire thing that can be finished independently before they have funding for the rest.

Well, that game sucked. Wasn't the ending this team deserved and it's not how I choose to remember them. I'll remember them playing above their talent level all season long, the starters carrying a shitload of minutes to help the team overachieve, and how they always fought even against superior opponents. Not gonna tarnish the memory because they couldn't get up for a consolation game.

I think the tremendous minutes load our starters carried all season long plus the fact that they fell short of their ultimate goal (the tournament) led to a totally flat team throughout the game. Not to mention the EBA feels like some sort of bizarre social experiment when it's so empty. I generally hate when people criticize effort/intensity because it's mostly misguided, but I think it was clear tonight that they weren't super excited about being there, or they overlooked Loyola, or some combination of both.

Still have total faith in Dave and what he's done so far. Can't wait to see what he does in the next year or two with more of his recruits and more playing time for the young guys.

It looked to me that our Patriots were playing hard, but mentally on Spring Break. How many shots did Mason take that rimmed out? How many bad passes, whiffs on catching the ball, and short-rimmed layups did the team endure? Ughh. :dead: The game was worth it if Mason had won.

Get ready for next season to be enormously frustrating. I'm pretty sure that we got an accurate preview tonight. And I'll be there, every game, supporting my Mason ballers!

Would phase I give the players a 24/7 gym to use? Have to believe every aspect of their game will increase with that access. It's a little crazy when you think about it. Basketball is our anchor sport but we can't give them a 24/7 gym to use.

I would assume so. My guess is they'll outfit a new door or something with keycard access. I'm a bit surprised they haven't found a way to let them into the RAC at night. I used to work there and it's pristine when it closes up. Just let the team swipe in. If anything is f**ked up in the morning you know who did it.

So our two returning 5's scored a combined 2 points and grabbed 2 rebounds in 25 minutes of action against Loyola!?!? Holy hell does Dave have a job to do with these kids to make them productive. Even a raw A-10 backup talent should be able to put up some numbers on Loyola.

My only hope is that if you place them with a 4 and they don't have the responsibility of being the only big, their production will go up.

They aren't properly boxing out. They're getting in front of their man, but they're giving up too much ground and aren't pushing back when waiting for the ball to come down. Home many times have we seen them (particuarly Troy) reaching back over his head to come up with a rebound and not come up with it? They're way too close to the rim. Marquise gets his rebounds because he has the benefit of a running start and knowing where the ball will land. The bigs don't have that and need to create more of an empty zone under the hoop that they can collapse into. Once the ball kicks off the rim over your head you're f**ked.

"I give credit to Loyola. They played hard, played well and wanted this game," head coach Dave Paulsen said. "Guys hit some big shots for them when we started to crawl back into the contest. I'm disappointed in our effort and our intensity. This is a teachable moment and a learning experience. I want to thank our seniors. In the big picture, our team made a lot of progress this year."

No offense, but that was pretty much a dumpster fire.
Trying not to let it ruin my outlook on a decent season, but wasn't thrilled to have forked out $55 for that.

Glad I was out of town for this one. As much as people are justifiably concerned about our lack of an experienced big man next season, I'm just as worried about our lack of a shooting guard. Kier showed me nothing consistently to convince me he's the guy, and I'm not sure Newman is consistent enough on either end of the court to win that spot. Boyd will be a good candidate to replace Moore's penetration, but again he's not a great shooter yet.

Granted, guys will improve from their first to second year, but is anybody here really confident that we have a great 2-guard on this roster or coming in?

I'm glad I teach a class on Wednesday nights...

Lots of options for shooting guard: 1) Greene comes in and wins the job and we start two point guards again next seasons. 2) Mar wins the job at the three and Grayer moves over to shooting guard. 3) Boyd plays the 3 and Grayer moves to shooting guard. 4) Kier works on his release and wins the job starting at the 2 (Kier was our best 3-point shooter statistically, but his release is so slow I can make a sandwich waiting for him to shoot it). 5) Newman gets stronger and wins the job as the shooting guard and becomes a triple threat. 6) We stay a poor 3-point shooting team for another year and rely on dribble penetration like we have been the last two years. 7) We lose multiple players to transfer and Paulsen brings in a shooting guard who can start right away.
