We know. It wasn't meant literally. It's just to show what overdoing it looks like. A slide, bowling alley, and miniature golf course aren't necessary. It's so above and beyond what we need I thought it was obvious. When the basketball team makes $83.5 million/year like Clemson football we can talk about having a Nike store and Gatorade bar at our practice campus.
Lol the most we could ever make in a season is 3 million

With some people on these boards, you never know. Programs like Duke have built new facilities in recent years that are 1/3 the size of the RAC. What the AD is building (hopefully sooner, rather than later) will be enough for what we need.

You realize that facility is for football, right? Used for a team that can have over 100 players on its roster at any point during the season. The AD is renovating the Cage Gym, upgrading the EBA locker rooms, and raising funds to build an addition onto the RAC that will only be used by the basketball team. We don't need a 150,000 sqft facility for a basketball team. New gym, new courts, new lockers, new meeting/training areas with 24/7 access will get the job done.

I get it. I know that's for football. Im not asking for that. I'm all aboard the current plan for the basketball team. I just don't want to wait for it haha.

I get that the RAC is most likely not feasible. Although I would love if Mason could lead the basketball facilities arms race at least in the a10. Clemson gets recruits because they
have so many shinny toys to show off.

I also remember my older brothers pointing out the RAC when they visited and said they had nothing like that at their schools VT, WVU. Imagine showing that off to future recruits. Next season won't be a big recruiting year, but the following year will be huge. I sure hope Edwards plan is complete so we show it off to 2020 recruits.

I don't want to get into another debate about the RAC, it was just a rash comment I said once after hearing the basketball team doesn't have a facility all to themselves. I know it's not realistic, but a man can dream big haha

Just saw a Kevin McNamee retweet on Twitter that said vcu spent $5.7M on Men's Hoops with $8M in revenue (not sure if it was referencing this year, last or an average). No matter how much we hate vcu (which is a f*** ton), their people know sports marketing down there and how to build a brand.

Fair enough. I think we should look at what other schools in the A10 are doing, and if we want to be at the top of the league then we should be at the top of the league with facilities.

I was just factoring ticket revenue. I don't know how Mason splits gameday revenue with the company that operates the arena. Do you know how they arrived at that $8 million number? Considering their place is smaller than ours, it has to take it quite a few factors other than tickets.

Doesn't say. But yea, I would imagine it's above and beyond just ticket revenue. I think the main thing to focus on though is that they spent $5.7M on the program. Does anyone know how much we spent?

$25 on some pizzas after practice one day in December.

I kid, I kid.

The trend right now is for tiny houses based on my wife and I watching HGTV. Kids want to live in tiny houses and pretend they are one with nature and shit.

Don't see why we can't build each member of the team a tiny gym and let them do with it as they please.

Yea, there's a breakdown of everything. But, according to that site our revenue is the same as our expenses, therefore we don't make a dime? Doesn't seem right.

I'd be curious to know what we spent outside of salary and scholarships. Basically, what did we actually spend on the program (recruiting, equipment, travel, etc.)

vcu basketball is the main attraction in Richmond since Richmond has no other major sports. Even if Mason ranked in the top 25 every year I still don't think we could sell out EBA every game. I don't think we can ever match their revenue numbers.

That's a contributing factor, but it goes beyond that though. They've done a really good job at building a brand that students and the community can get behind. From their taglines, to their gear, to their playing style. Not saying we have to emulate everything they do, but the AD needs to amplify their marketing efforts to build a cohesive brand that is in-tune with how consumers relate to brands nowadays. Starting with a tagline would be a simple first step.

In attendance, perhaps, but there's no reason with our alumni that we can't match, or exceed, what they do. There's more money in Fairfax County than Richmond.

Largest school in the state. Let students have fun. Let them drink and heavily lol and they will feel a connection to the school and want to come out to more games. Every Saturday game open up a young alumni section and give them drinks, and they will come

It's much easier to get someone to spend $20 and go to a game than to get them to make a donation with little tangible return. vcu's MO is put people in the stands and get their money that way. While our alumni might have more money, if they don't see results on the court they won't donate. We need to get to a level that vcu and Dayton are at before you'll see the constant bigger money donations.

Athletics almost needs its own endowment that can provide a few million per year.
