Question: I muted the broadcast because all the play by play guy did was basically give a countdown of the shot clock starting at 25, but was the graphic with the time outs innaccurate? It showed us with two when we took that ten second call. Seemed odd that Paulsen wouldn’t take one there considering we would’ve been able to shave 30 seconds off the clock.

This team isn't going to play well at the tournament. They don't even have enough juice to finish off 2 halves. How can they play back to back to back games.

Boyd's shot going in was justice because no way we deserved to lose that game.

Saint Joe's spent the last 2 minutes fouling us to stop the clock and they still shot 7 more FTs than we did.

The 2 late fouls Newkirk was given were particularly egregious. Otis didn't even touch him on his and-1, then he ran right into Kier on their last possession and Greene got called for the foul.

Our guys were trying NOT to foul and still kept getting called for fouls. That was a terrible whistle in the second half after they let both teams get after it in the first half. Calling two different games like that drives me nuts. Be consistent already.

Anyhow, we're the 6 seed right now because we own the tiebreaker against Dayton and Richmond.

And we yet again get a chance to get back to .500 at home Saturday against UMass. Gotta get over the hump and make a run for the double bye in the last two games. Pretty insane that a top-4 seed is still squarely in play for this team.
Agree. The inconsistency between the refs in the first and second halves was ridiculous. It’s like they got a call from the league at halftime that said they were letting too much go.

Granted - I was a little angry with the refs in the first half because what they were letting go was not consistent to the way our games have been officiated all year. Still, the refs shouldn’t change the way they are calling the game after the players have adjusted to it - particulalrly after halftime when the coaches can adjust to it as well.

Pretty sure you can’t call timeouts from the bench anymore while the play is live.

To be fair, the officiating cut both ways in the second half, at least at the beginning. Funk got called for 4 fouls in something like 45 seconds.

Concur about that Oliva guy being dirty. I think Kier got lucky he didn't get a concussion...he also undercut Calixte earlier on a rebound when he had zero chance at it.

:cigar:Easy win had it all the way. :cigar:

Good grief. Can we not forget how to play defense, bring the ball across, be out of position when it matters. Jesus. Survive and move on. Big win and that’s what matters.
It's not like Mason didn't play defense the last 10 minutes. If the offense didn't go flat at the 10 minute mark then they could have avoided the heart-pounding finish. As they were trying to milk the clock they could not find many buckets. Missed a few very, very makeable threes and a couple of lay-ins over that time period—just like vs. Lasalle.

But, I'll give you a play-by-play, as heard from my computer room, as the buzzer sounded:

BOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYD!

Just glad that the Green n' Gold split this road trip. Three games left, only one on the road. However, is UMass actually better without Holloway? Is vcu collapsing or can they revive? Can Mason keep the curse strong vs. Richmond?

Stay tuned... :eatingfingers:

A lot of these nailbiters have come down, for me, to a lack of an experienced big who can get these rebounds. This game wouldn't have been nearly as close if we had a guy who could grab those crucial late stretch rebounds after a miss. I think SJU had something like 9 or 11 second chance points off missed 3s late in the second half, many of those were fought for under the basket where a big 5 should be going up and clearing those out.

If Mason can stay out of the PIGpen then we'll be the team with fresh legs, at least for one game.

Such optimism. They should quit now instead of finding a way to get back up and win.

Lol I'm just calling it like I see it. The team is super young and these kids are tired. I'm optimistic for next season, the skill is there. Bodies are not ready for this grind yet.

I don't think anyone has fresh legs by the end of the season. Tournament games wind up being rock fights a lot of the time, because both teams are nursing ailments and knocks up and down the lineup.
