I have to admit, when By George first started I thought they were just as annoying as Ryan Kish (mainly because they said their stated purpose for the site was to build hype around the program, so they were just being blind homers to be blind homers), but every year they've gotten better and closer to a legit place to get news and insight. Bringing Petey Buckets on as an "analyst" was a big part of that for me.

Serious question, why does everyone hate Kish? (Genuine question, I don't follow him one way or the other or know anything about him.)

I think it goes back to him regurgitating things posted on these boards onto his blog with no attribution.

I was one of Ryan's biggest critics, but I talked to him directly about my concerns and even offered some advice. I was honestly surprised how receptive and contrite he was. He's a big Mason fan who made some mistakes a while back. Might be time to give him another chance. He's doing some good work over there and, most importantly, he learned some valuable lessons about sourcing information and photos.

I've known Kish since Freshman year. He's a good guy and a huge fan. He probably went about his early days the wrong way, but he's genuinely just a huge Mason fan who is trying to generate more content about the team. I don't like that he would steal posts from here, but I don't think that's the case anymore.

Taking little nuggets here and there was one thing, but when I was doing The Mason Bench there were times when he would steal our generated material, including a video, posted it on his site and put a gmuhoops watermark on it. He didn’t just cross the line, he sprinted past it. We had to get a lawyer involved.

Having said that, I think all that is water under the bridge. He reached out once and apologized which was cool. We have since unbanned each other from social media and I think we both chalk it up to being young and dumb.

Now, no question the guys at By George are taking things to the next level. I love what they are doing - things I could never do with The Mason Bench being in Illinois. I give them major props - even though I have a couple pet peeves with a few things they do.

If Gunnie and Tom have burried the hatchet, I think it is time everyone else do the same and move on from attacking one of Mason's biggest supporters for past indiscretions that he apologized for.

Hmmm. I’m pretty sure Ryan won’t be back to post though even though he’s probably reading this.

Have you thought of doing something like guest columns on By George to wade back into generating content, but with less time commitment than running the bench took? You and Petey could do a back and forth type analysis, or you could do an occasional "inside scoop" article, etc.

I want to guest star on the podcast. I’m not a stats guru, and I have no inside knowledge to offer, but I’m loud and opinionated and I think that’s all that matters.

It's no secret that I don't have as much time as I'd like to make the news/blog side of MasonHoops better. Alan has done a great job contributing for the past few years - would really be cool if others would want to contribute an article here or there. Might even encourage me to start writing more!
