Dp can not coach or recruit at the A10 level. If we allow him another five years, I am honestly not sure our program can recover. Whatever it takes, we need to get the funds to get him out of here before its too late. Maybe he will agree to a reasonable buyout of the contract.
I don’t know why I’m even entertaining this conversation. But I’m getting real tired of hearing about it, so I’m going to try to convince you that your concerns, while some are valid, are premature and irrelevant at this point.

First, let’s say that you’re right and DP is not the right man for the job. Why would he agree to a buyout at this point? It would have to be for an extraordinarily large sum of money. In those negotiations, he would have all the power due to the length of his contract. Also, he can reasonably expect to have a much better season next year. So why would he agree to a buyout now, when his value will conceivably increase after next season? That is why conversations about firing Paulsen are completely irrelevant at this point.

Second, to say that he can’t coach at the A-10 level is absurd. Where did he finish in A-10 coach of the year voting last season? If memory serves, it was somewhere between 2 and 4. He also coached the conference’s most improved player last year. The team vastly overachieved.

To say he can’t recruit is entirely premature. None of his recruits have completed their careers here. We don’t know what developments they will make. So far, his juniors are doing pretty well - especially for being unheralded, last-minute recruits. Mar and Calixte are showing some promise as freshman. The boards are getting updated constantly with positive news about our two commits. Sure, the sophomores are in a bit of a slump, but I’m thinking they will come around. We just don’t know yet. DP also “recruited” Reuter who should make a big difference next year. Either way, it’s too early to make definitive statements.

I promised to tell the truth, good or bad. This team remains a mystery. How do you go from winning on the road against UMass to laying one of the biggest turds ever at home? Only one player even began to compete today. The rest were worthless. If you disagree you know JacK Sh*t about the game. Pathetic effort on all counts.

THIS TEAM is far from a mystery. We signed kids then ran them off with no back up plan. What Reuter saw in this program I don't know, but without even playing a min for us, DP think he is the Kevin Durant for our program and to me that is scary. Atleast DP told us from the start this season was gonna be crap.

What's going on right now is a few things:

1) Kier and Boyd are one-dimensional players right now and easy to guard.

2) Otis is dribbling too much and too often into traffic.

3) Calixte is still developing and isn't really ready to be contributing 30 minutes per game at this point.

4) Grayer has trouble finishing in traffic, which is surprising given his size.

5) We have zero bench.

4) Because of 1-4, we are not a very good half-court team, but that's what Paulsen wants to play and so we're already climbing an uphill battle trying to play half-court offense and defense with a limited team.

5) We did almost nothing to try to stop Aldridge from getting the ball isolated in the post. I thought Mar did a good job on him early, but he got worn down as the game went on.

At halftime I looked at the 3 keys the coaches had listed in the Gold Room. We did NONE of the 3. Bad coaching, or players who are just f**king stupid/lazy? Yes, I am pissed and left early again.

There is zero point in keeping him around knowing be can not be successful at mason. Being successful here is winning games in the NCAA tournament. I don' think he can even win games in the A10 tournament.
Think of DP like a losing stock trading at 20 dollars. His stock is going to zero. Why watch the bleeding for next couple years and continue to lose. We need to cut it before we hit even a lower low. I don' want to watch this program collaspe and we lose everything. We have to know when to take our loss. The time is rapidly approaching.

If you are surprised by our team’s inconsistency 16 games into the season, that’s on you. I think we’ve all seen enough by now to know what this team is and is not.

But then Davidson is inconsistent too. They lost to Richmond and only scored 54 points against SLU. They were due to have a great offensive game and they had it today.

And I guess that Mark Schmidt fellow should be fired too. He has the likely A-10 player of the year and another all-conference guard and his team has the same league record as we do. Terrible coach.

I don't know why people go to these games with any expectations this year. It's essentially a practice year. Whether or not you agree with that approach is on you, because it is what it is, and it's going to stay that way. I basically view every game with the hopes of seeing improvements, but we simply don't have enough players with enough talent to compete for anything meaningful. That is going to change next year, and I will look more critically at our successes and failures then.

If its just a practice year and the games mean nothing how about we drop tickets to $5-10 dollars. No idea why people would pay their hard earned money when its just practice going on the court. At this point i am not even sure we could give tickets away.

I don't see these players quitting on Coach Dave. During the reins of Nestor, Westhead, and Hewitt, I've seen teams and certain players completely fold up their tents and go home. Paulsen's players aren't quitting. Paulsen's players aren't having meltdowns on the bench. Paulsen's players aren't turning on one another. Paulsen's players aren't walking off the team in mid-season (or mid-game). Paulsen's players are still playing.

If Paulsen is totally F'ing up then that will eventually work itself out, and change will take its course. However, it's the players who need our support. How do you think they feel? They're the ones who have to go out and play. Do you think they like losing so badly? Hate the coach if you want, but support the players—they have yet to quit.

How good/bad do you guys think we are, overall?

E.G. at the end of the year, when you are what your record says you are, what do you expect the team to be?

After all the ups and downs, what will the final result be?

"Davidson played extremely well and we did not," head coach Dave Paulsen said. "We really shot ourselves in the foot, as they had 21 points off turnovers. That, for the most part, was the story of the game. We can't wallow - we have to bounce back and get better. We proved on Wednesday what we're capable of and we've shown that a few times. We're a young team and we're incredibly inconsistent. The only way to improve on that is to work harder and to have better focus."

Sigh.

They usually have the post game up fairly quickly on FB after games, curious why this one isn't up yet.
