This is something I have been wondering for a while. The game is out of hand, Davidson put their walk on's in, Paulsen should do the same. My seat neighbor thinks that Paulsen is punishing his players by keeping them in when the game is out of hand. I mean, Paulsen had to get walk on's just to have practice because of the all the players that transferred, should let them play when the time allows.
He did take Otis out at the end and gave him a break. On tv they zoomed in on Otis and he was visibly frustrated. The announcers basically said it was a shame he got no support. At one point they put up a graphic Otis 20 points, rest of team 29. Pretty sad.
Otis is one of the most positive players I’ve seen But, he’s also a competitor. Wonder when these efforts break the team psychologically and we see it on the court.
Good to see that they’ve started looking for calixte a bit more and are feeding him the ball. He showed some decent post moves. He’s also giving us some post defense, but will get eaten by good upperclassmen.
Mar is not going to be as effective in conference play. Teams will key on him and Otis. Take one or both of them away and we don’t have much else on offense.
Kier inexplicably disappeared over the last few games and needs to find an outside stroke. He’s not as effective getting to the basket right now and teams don’t have to play up on him, which makes it hard for anyone else to find an open lane.
Grayer, for as good as he is, won’t help us until he can finish around the basket. Possibly our most versatile player, but doesn’t attack the rim. What happened to him taking over for MM?
Don’t know what to make of Boyd. He shows flashes, but hasn’t provided much. Gonna stick with the idea he might be hurt.
AJ is just a disaster at this point. He had three or for possessions in a row when we were still in the game that lead to Davidson pushing out the lead in the first half. If he could get it together, I think we’d be more competitive and optimistic. Really disappointing for a redshirt freshman.
As a team our rebounding is bad. We don’t have a team mentality for crashing the glass like last year. With our lack of size we need everyone going for the boards. Not to mention that we are not pulling down any offensive boards and we shoot like .
I get everyone is upset that we are getting blown out, especially at home. But we just don’t have the horses this year. I’m convinced that if AJ could play under control we’ll at least be competitive the rest of the year with two serviceable bigs, Otis, Mar and Grayer. That’s my ideal lineup. But, I don’t know if AJ can do it.
If this happens again next year I’ll be more inclined to say we are in trouble. This year sucks, but it’s still not as bad as seeing a Hewitt team full of potential playing like real crap for no reason.
BTW most losses in a season for Mason is 23.
