Just my observations, for what little they're worth:
Seems that our guards, going back to last year, totally forget that there's this thing called a "jump shot" in the second half. Every single play seems to be a slash to the hoop by our short guards into two taller defenders, usually ending up in a missed layup or wild circus shot. For such a fundamentals-oriented coach, I have to wonder why Paulson doesn't call more timeouts down the stretch and try to get the shooters to actually shoot mid-range shots and to stop playing so out-of-control. Seems like Boyd is the only one willing to pull up and take an open jumper.
Early on they were feeding Reuter the ball and letting him back down defenders. Later he seemed to be used mostly as a high-post pick than for offense.
On the upside, Reuter looks like the real deal - finally someone down low who can body up on the low blocks and not get pushed around like our other tall stick-figures down there, and can set a solid pick. Interesting that he was being taken out on defense in the 2nd half. Is he seen as a weak defender?
Lack of rebounding throughout the game wasn't good to see - especially off the free throws at the end. I guess Mason on paper out-rebounded Penn but it sure didn't seem like it in the 2nd half.
Let's put aside the repeated inability to defend Penn's back-cuts with no weak-side help coming. They were making it look way too easy.
Also, 6'10 Chinese guy draining flat-footed threes. How the hell do you even defend that? lol...
