Cant win with zero and 1 star recruits. Apparently 4 star uva transfers dont help either. I have no idea why jds didn't get a few minutes. f**k. And wtf was up with his substitutions? Never allowed for a rhythm to develop. f**k. We looked like last years team. :bricks:

to be honest I wasn’t encouraged by much to make me think we’ve turned some magical corner and are going to be a tournament team. For a team now stacked with upper class men with tons of minutes there sure were a lot of dumb turnovers and missed defensive assignments. Goanar Mar now in the exhibition and in this game just doesn’t seem to be very motivated or into the game. Glad to see Justin Wilson has calmed down and is letting the game come to him instead of trying to do too much and getting 3 fouls in two minutes. Reuter seems like a decent player and hope he improves as the rust wears off and his fitness level increases.

This season is about being a great team in the second half of the season and winning the A-10 tourney, an at large is a pipe dream especially after this loss at home.
to defend GoMar he was guarding their only good player the entire game... offensive play calling absolutely anemic and GoMar wasn't getting any touches... We are 10x the team when AJ is on the court... but Paulsen is so damn annoying by never putting him in when we need a boost.... JDS can shoot to answer an earlier question, Paulsen would just rather have 4 people who can't on the court when we need a basket... Reuter needs to hit the damn treadmill. He gets gassed after 2 possessions every time

Why didn't Otis pass the ball there? He had no chance at the buzzer... I think it was Greene right next to him as he blew by?
Back to back turnovers by Otis with under 4 min left and no defense from Otis. We need our SR PG to play better to win those games.

LET THE OVERREACTIONS.....BEGIN!

I certainly don't think that. But I do think that GMU looked really sloppy down the stretch and pissed away a game that they had control of for most of the 2nd half. Hopefully every team we play sucks at shooting free throws as badly as Penn does.....

All you over reactors calm the f*ck down. That was a legit team we played and lost it by one play. They scored on all levels and the reason why their guards took it to the rim so easily was bc they shot 3s so well in the first half. They are probably a tournament team and we lost to them by one play. My only disappointments for the game are Grayer and Calixte, I'm sure they will get their shit together though.

Not only did we lose but Penn won after losing one of their starters to a knee injury early in the game and another starter missed most of the 2nd half after getting 4 fouls in the 1st half. Then he came back to kill us at the end of the game.
Some poor older gentleman evidently had a heart attack a few rows in front of me in section 102 during the 2nd half. He lost consciousness and the rescue team worked on him for about 15 minutes before taking him away. I obviously don't know the final outcome but I fear the worst. He was in extremely bad shape. Very sad situation.

*freshman from Mater Dei Michael Wang shot 3s so well in the first half... no matter how you cook it that was a bad loss especially with their second best player getting injured 5 mins into the game.. GoMar gave all he can on defense and AJ did all he can on the glass. Criminal that AJ plays such few minutes. maybe Jaire should have transferred if he won't see the floor.

Certainly disappointing. Somewhat confused about not going with Boyd and AJ down the stretch after playing well.

We had our chance to put them away around the 11 min mark up 8, but couldn’t hit a shot. Penn chipped away and was more sound in crunch time.

Speaking of shots, where where the 3s? We didn’t take many and missed most of the few we did take. Won’t be hard for teams to pack it in if we don’t even threaten from 3.

Concerned that Gonar was a non factor and not aggressive. Also expected us to be way more aggressive on the boards, we certainly had the athletic advantage. Kier getting toasted on back cuts won’t get it done either. Oh and a relatively poor night for Otis.

Positive? Reuter, but he also couldn’t stay on the court. Hartwell looks promising. Good speed and energy.

Everyone sounds like me... I’m not willing to let myself go off the deep end quiet yet. But I’m fearful our team is no better than the 16-17 season. I have a feeling we will have a very similar season. Maybe 20 wins but the resume won’t be good enough for a post season tourney.

Moore, Jenkins and Otis was a solid starting group.

"This was a heartbreaking and devastating loss," head coach Dave Paulsen said. "You have to give credit to Penn. They executed and made big plays down the stretch. Our guys played really hard and were terrific defensively in the last 8-12 minutes of the first half. But they shot 70 percent in the second half and we couldn't keep their guards out of the lane. We've tried to create a defensive DNA and we did that in parts of the game, but we didn't sustain it."

They were picked 3rd in the Ivy League preseason poll. Good team, but I doubt a tournament team. Gonna have to root for them from here on out.

Update - they were picked 2nd - my bad.

Disappointing first game. Especially since it seemed winnable for the majority of the game.

Mason has lots of parts but the chemistry was off more than expected. Biggest issue was poor turnovers. With the trip to Spain and all of the players returning that was an unwelcome surprise.

The Bad: Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. Grayer and Mar were non-factors. Otis a bit loose with the ball. That’s three pillars that will play better. Defensively - the Princeton back cuts were giving us fits and closing out the Wang in the first half as he torched us with four 3’s. Reuter’s conditioning and reach fouls are a concern.

Never like having closely called games against Princeton style teams.

The Good: Reuter reaffirmed he can be a force. Love his ability to patiently look to score or pass to an open guard. Boyd played well. Greene and Wilson looked much improved. Wonder if AJ played a little more how that might have impacted the game? He is playing in more control and was a difference maker. Wouldn’t have minded seeing more of AJ and Reuter on the court at the same time.

It’s one game and could have gone either way....but could’ve, should’ve, would’ve doesn’t work this year.

Well... at least we weren't GW tonight... scored the first 22 points of the game and lost in OT... could be worse

That player that went down for them blew out his knee and his season is done so that will def hurt their chances. I judge a team by how many ways they can score and they could almost do it all. (Post, bigs and guards hit 3s, penetration, mid range) They are a solid team.
