My point was and is that according to sleeperpick this kid is hot garbage....i disagree. He's already light years ahead to Greg. I can separate my dislike for the job DP is doing and also give an objective evaluation of the kids on the roster.
This kid is 3x worse than Greg at defense and 5x better than Greg at offense. He’s not good at all and wasn’t at PVI either. He improved a lot this summer to go from non d1 player to a kid that should play 3 mins per game in competitive d 1 basketball

He had a decent 8 and 7 yesterday against a guy who is already one of the best bigs in the A-10. Your opinion was garbage and continues to be so.

Your obviously letting your dislike for DP cloud your judgement. I'm not saying he will ever be an all league player or game changer by any stretch, but he is certainly better then you advertised all summer.

He did struggle mightily on the defensive side against Mitchell, but so did Langevine so we can’t fault him too much for that. And yeah pulling him out of the paint and asking him to switch into guards is not a good idea because he’s not quick enough to stay with someone out there on the perimeter, but you can scheme out of that and keep him in the paint, so thats on Paulsen not Oduro.

Im not going to project his ceiling, but am pretty damn confident he’s not going to ever be a Hughes or Osun or French type player. But he can develop into a starting caliber competent big if given the right coaching and we sheme around him the right way. That’s up to Paulsen and the assistants and Oduro to figure that out.

I'm still in the Oduro corner. Sure, he has a lot of work to do in the weight room and the practice facility, but I really like what he's shown on offense. Still a work in progress, but the upside is definitely positive. Is he going to be the next Jai Lewis or Will Thomas? No, but he definitely has the skill level to be a consistent contributor.

I do agree with sleeperpick that his defense needs a lot of work, but his size alone make him a viable player on that side of the ball — assuming he gets any decent coaching and conditioning from our staff.

We are not going to be good for at least 4-5 years. Fire him after the season and just take the lumps.

All our Guards and big men are tiny and we have zero shooting consistency... we have no star player.

Says guy who gushed all over about it on Twitter

Please be a better troll, feel free to pull receipts. Multiple people run the By George twitter but I, Bryan, never really embraced it. Sometimes I force it for the sake of hype, but it’s getting tougher.

Does @ByGeorge want Paulsen gone? You guys spend more time with him than any of us do.

Short answer: Yes

Longer answer: There’s 8 of us now and everyone has a different opinion, we have similar convos in our group chat. Paulsen has always been good to us, allowing access to a lot, interviews whenever we want them and we ask about each others families etc, so it’s not easy to call for someone’s job. Some of us have been critical of DP since day 1 cause we feel that’s our obligation. Hype players, be critical of the adults. A lot of what is discussed now, Petey or Bryan have asked him about in years past. We’re all just kinda fatigued, especially with the pressers. People praise our culture but our DMs say otherwise sometimes. We assume he’ll be back next year, so taking a side one way or the other seems irrelevant.

Another ByGeorger here: When we started By George during DPs first season, we called into a media A10 Tournament conference call where various A10 media outlets could ask questions to A10 higher ups and a few analysts/former coaches. When we initially asked about the future of our program (due to us being in the PIG), DP received a ton of praise from everyone on that call. It wasn't just BS d**k sucking but like legit praise and the notion was that our program would soon join the ranks of the A10 elite in a few years. We at By George had our doubts but the praise provided some optimism. That was back in 2015 and here we are today, back in the PIG discussion in 2020.

It's not only frustrating to cover the mediocrity but it's straight up challenging. We are at our core Mason fans and we want to cheer and complain and reveal our candid takes on players and coaches but we do have to remain positive. It's just so hard to defend a coach that's routinely piling up so many losses year in and year out (21, 14, 17, 15, 10 and counting). Then there's the roster management, we seemingly are only playing 7-8 guys right now and we have a ton of injuries. Why are we giving Jack a scholarship, what's the point of rostering JDS, Mar and even Calixte right now? DP almost always finds a player or two to ride (Otis, Kier) until they break down. Would anybody be surprised if Greene were to breakdown in a similar way, kid is averaging almost 39 mpg the last few weeks. Those injuries just create the same vicious cycle of poor roster management. I would love if DP had a similar Q&A sit down like Hewitt did at Brion's Grill. I just want to know what the plan is here.
