Could you clarify?
4 guys currently not worth carrying on scholarship.... (I disagree on Calixte... I also think Daddy should be 2 years away from even touching a meaningful minute in a game that matters). So I think 4 as well but subtract Calixte for Daddy.

Is there really an issue in awarding an open scholarship to a walk-on for one semester? And, do you want to dismiss scholarship players from the team if they have been working hard on and off the court?

But the issue is why are these scholarships open? How many offered ones are being turned down or kids ditching program. Two years in a row we have horrible depth and two "open scholarships" to give to walk-ons?

This. If you have an extra one sure, give it a kid who works hard and is a good example. But why do we even have extra scholarships when we are so sorely lacking at so many positions in the first place? (That's just a rhetorical question to make a point)

They are worth carrying on the roster if they were being utilized or at the very least groomed for some sort of future usage. I loved Calixte and as a freshman he averaged nearly 19mpg, then as a sophomore 14mpg, now as a junior 13 mpg. You typically should see usage increase over a kids 4 year tenure. Same with JDS averaging 9mpg his freshman year to now just 3mpg and Mar 31mpg now down to 15. It's as if we continue to phase kids out as they are getting older and would explain why Dave doesn't have many seniors. Some of this is due to competition (Calixte), some due to regression (Mar), and I have no clue what Dave's plan is with JDS. It just feels as if some of these scholarships are being wasted. We're currently in a free fall and practically guaranteed a PIG, maybe this is the time to give these guys some extended minutes to see if we have anything here.

Don’t hate giving tempchin the scholarship at all. More hate towards us having a free one every single year with no capable big man on the roster

So, this is about insufficient playing time for Calixte, Mar, & JDS? Perhaps, you are right. But, who do you want on the court down the stretch in a close game?

How can people hate on ByGeorge. They routinely give us nerds extra content. The administration gives us nothing to chew on.
Exactly. I don't understand why there is so much hate for each other on here. The difference between most people on this forum right now seems to be fire Pauslsen at the end of this year or at the end of next year if he does not right the ship. Additionally I don't know that many people are even arguing that he WILL fix it next year, just that they hope he does so that we are not in a rebuild, and resigned to the fact that the odds are that the AD will keep him for another year.

Compare this to the largest proportion of our fans not on this forum, and they seem to be on the Paulsen bandwagon. If you want to be angry with someone, it shouldn't be the people on this forum. I suggest you talk to other fans, the ones that want him to stay, Mason Mom, the AD, etc.

The AD doesn’t respond and MasonMom is bat shit crazy. But I agree with your point. Did have a good conversation with some of the event and patriot club people. They seemed very neutral as they should but definitely frustrated

That's the problem, the answer should be Calixte and Mar, the answer shouldn't be freshmen but here we are.

If we're down 15+ to teams, why aren't we seeing JDS?

If Jason could make a difference, don’t you think he’d be out there? Or do you think we have a coach who is purposely trying to lose?

I think he has more of a chance of making a difference than Gonar but here we are with Gonar still playing 15+ a game. I get it different positions but still...

Goanar at least defends and provides length. And his time has been going down too ... 5 minutes against UMass ... there’s no magical solution coming off the bench, this team is what it is at this point.

C'mon Jim, Mason is where they are because Paulsen plays guys out of position or benches amazing players for no good reason!

We think the coach should develop and play the guys he recruited, and when that’s not happening...it’s an issue.

This is another point that goes back to fan entitlement. At some point you have to understand Mason is not the first program in the nation to recruit kids who just don't work out. Yeah sure it would be awesome if every recruit turned out to be Otis but if Paulsen could do that he probably be coaching in the Big Ten

This goes back to DP not having many seniors, the problem is not many are working out.

It’s not entitlement, it’s just following expectations set by the program. DP talked about getting to the tourney annually in an interview.

If Otis is the ceiling...

https://www.coachesdatabase.com/hot-seat-report/:

"Dave Paulsen (George Mason)
  • George Mason is no longer the perennial postseason squad and NCAA Cinderella it was just 10-15 years ago. Ever since Jim Larrañaga left in 2011, the Patriots have become an also-ran program struggling to regain relevance in a competitive A-10 field. Paulsen came on board back in 2015 and has done nothing to move the needle. The highlight was the 2016-17 squad that won 20 games and went to CBI, but this is a program that went to five NCAAs and three NITs from 1997-2011. Paulsen’s fifth Patriots team might be his worst yet, sitting at the bottom of the A-10 at just 2-8 (13-10 overall)."

It’s fair and understandable to critique the coach’s recruiting and player development while also recognizing it’s not an exact science, human beings don’t all develop at the same pace and some guys just don’t have the fire in their belly to be great.

For every AJ who quietly goes about his business and works to become “the most improved player Dave has ever coached,” there are dozens of other guys who just don’t pan out for many reasons. That’s just reality.

He can't get any recruits up to Otis level. Otis level is top 10 player in A10. If that is the ceiling with Paulsen I think you just proved the point of many on here
