it is nuts to me that the Paulsen fans in here that also are totally against saying anything bad about 18-21 year old amateur athletes can listen to him blame the kids every single press conference of the last 5 years. It is tough to watch sometimes and I am not holier than thou about saying Gonar Mar SUCKS

I think its unfair to say that he blames the kids.....he certainly does not by name. But I get it, he has the same old song and dance after every game. I too would love for him to come out and say that HE didn't have the team prepared to play when they look like shit, thats what great leaders do. When the team plays well the kids were awesome, when the team struggles its my fault they weren't ready. Period.

I don't think Mar sucks. When he had minimal exposure to Paulsen his freshmen year, he did great. Now after another year of marinating in Paulseness, he's regressed. He's just been DP'ed.

Perhaps, it's unfair to blame Paulsen for Mar's situation. There has been several cases in the past where athletes' skills have quickly and inexplicable declined. In baseball, there have been pitchers who lost their ability to throw strikes and second basemen who could no longer make routine throws to first base. And, similar cases have occurred in basketball and golf.

In some cases, these athletes have benefited from sports psychologists.

I haven't watched the pressers, but, if true, that is not a good look. He is the one getting the big bucks.

I have sat in 50+ pressers. Let’s be clear, DP is not ever rude or bashing a player. He answers the questions asked. He also rarely if ever says things like -

this ones on me today
I have to have this team better prepared
Our game plan didn’t work
Our offensive inefficiencies are on me
This staff needs to do better job

In his 3rd year I asked “is there something you could do differently in preparation” he didn’t really like that question. I don’t want the picture to be that he’s in the presser bashing players, he’s not. But he will blame AJ getting into foul trouble or certain players for their defensive rotations etc.

Very rarely do any other coaches say any of this, I mean why would DP? He'll probably find a way to 7 conference wins this season and get another extension

Great leaders give all credit to those under him/her when things go right and accept all blame when things don't go as expected or go totally f*cking wrong. Great leaders never accept praise when things go really well. Credit is deferred to the team. When things don't go as wanted/expected then a great leader goes to work looking for other ways to achieve goals set forth. Leadership 101.

I concur, I’d like to hear him say some of these things too. Even Hewitt on occasion would say something about preparation. Might have been towards the end but at least he said it.

I feel like LOTS of other coaches say this stuff. I am a leader of children (in both music and sports) and there have been times that I KNEW failure was 100% the kids' fault, and I took the blame. I knew there were times the kids didn't do shit and they were only successful because I busted my a**. When I was recognized for it, I deferred the praise onto the kids. I'm nothing special. In fact, I'm an a**. But as 81 said, it's leadership 101. College kids deserve that type of leadership just as much as my little guys do.

I get it Jim, small percentage of actual fans are on this board... just tune in next home game and see if you hear a roar when our geriatric announcer calls out our coaches name.... not many cheers anymore

To be fair we wouldn't be able to hear if there is booing or cheering in the arena or on tv because the PA announcer would be introducing Dave and downright screaming into the microphone, lol.

Every year I keep waiting for G Mas to part ways with the PA dude. He's way too loud when it's not warranted. They got rid of creepy t-shirt guy, why not PA guy?
