I like that this guy has a clear plan for what he wants. You won't have any success if you're not absolutely sure of what you're system is and what you want to run. I have no idea if this is a good hire because I cannot see into the future at our wins/losses, but I do know that Bucknell seemed to be one of those random schools that for some reason you always heard about.

Good luck coach! Can't wait for the new era.

Wait. We hired a guy that has a system, knows how to run it, knows what type of kids to recruit, and looks to have charisma and isn't pussy whipped? Hmmmm...this is very interesting. May King David be the cornerstone to our PowerHouse.

We can't pay much this year, that's understandable, but to go at these coaches with 375k and not have written in the contract they get a 500k pay bump in year 2 - since we have the cash - will get you this. Average.

Yes, I know what Archie made. Then they ponied up to keep him and you see the results. You have to pay to play in the Big Boy league. This is a CAA hire.

What the f**k are you talking about? He has a better record than Turner or Coach L. Oh and do you know how much he was offered? You saw the contract?

No sources.....but I bet he IS our next coach.

Edwards must be in a panic to have to go this far down the list.

KA this is not far down the list - in fact he is at the level of Turner. Big West is about equal to Patriot League.

I think we're in agreement on this. The more I read about him, the more I like what I hear.

Consistent winner at multiple levels (conf COY, NCAA, NIT, Div III Nat'l Champsionships), highly intelligent (cum laude w/honors, phi betta kappa), turned a program around, and players graduate.

Well put - I had hoped we would avoid a big name and hire a coach riding a growing hard earned wave of success. It is a step up for him, but I like Paulson's hire.

I'll confess to being superficial at first and being a little hesitant when his name came out. I won't go into details, but Mason had ticked me off so completely and in so many ways recently, I was looking for a reason to not like the new coach. It would have made some decisions in my life a little bit easier.

But, as the day has proceeded, the idea of Coach Paulsen has really grown on me. The more I have read and watched of Paulsen, the more I like him. I am not saying anything new, but I applaud BE for looking beyond the superficial aspects. This looks like a very solid hire and I can support it completely.

I was in such a good mood, I just went to Brion's Grille (which is looking fabulous as the renovations inside and out appear to be nearing completion) and had a delicious BBQ Bourbon Ribeye to celebrate the hire! No Cherry Coke, but I had the next best thing in a Dr. Pepper. It was great to be back in a Mason atmosphere. I have missed that.

I hope everyone is as excited as I am. With a good coach like this, being in the A10, and an AD that seems to have his eye on the prize, the sky is the limit for Mason basketball.

Welcome Coach Paulsen!

I dunno, Brian. You make a lot of good points but I think Dr. Pepper is actually a step up from Cherry Coke.

I like the hire. Paulsen has been around the block coaching wise. Also, he isn't a retread, success basically at every job he has had. I think this keeps mason under the radar and puts a chip on our shoulder. I feel our guys are committed to righting the ship and show it by hitting the gym. Excited for the Paulsen era and the hope it brings me as a mason fan!

Ditto. Initially when I saw the name posted, I was somewhat underwhelmed. But then thinking about a few things I like it more and more. He's an Xs and Os guy (quite the opposite of our previous two Pauls, and much like Coach L). He preaches ball control and ball security (again, unlike the Pauls). And as mentioned he's experienced but not a retread who only wants to use an A10 job to get back into a power conference. He's used to winning at lower levels and in smaller conferences, so he's going to be hungry to keep that up in the A10.

Plus, unlike Hewitt, maybe he can figure out how to beat vcu.
