In the grand scheme a million isn't that much. You could probably even find a way to get some sort of write off on it.

Just build it on campus so he and his family can walk to everything includign old town fairfax and a great mall (University Mall) that was just totally gutted and renovated.

lol as I always say when there is a will there is a way. But if a million was easy to come by we would have a practice faculty years ago.

But yeah I agree I think it's a cool and doable concept

I mean, a practice facility is $15 million and Hewitt didn't want one. The lack of one million dollars was certainly not what held us back.

But seriously I think Mason will have to come up with some intangibles to get coaches to stay. We built Masonvale for low-level faculty and grad students, why not a house for the coach? It's a nice area of the country so maybe that'll help keep people. I'm sure new facilities will help. Maybe keep a reserve of cash for an emergency counter-offer, I don't know.
GMU owns about 6 houses in Clifton area where the President, Provost and unknown others live. they are nice houses in a really nice area (middle of the woods).. give one to the coach!

NICE house in Clifton and give the Mrs. of any coach a decorator allowance at the start?

Maybe a car like Missouri gave their new coach (actually they gave him 2).

Yes..if we can't pay salary...then intangibles like that are the way to go.

Chad Dukes had a story about the George Mason Final 4 run. Chad said the President of GMU (don't know which one) said the Final 4 run was worth 190 million in publicity.

I googled to see if this was correct and found a GMUhoops article where a Professor said that the final 4 run was worth 677 million in free publicity.

The George Mason bookstore took in more money in March 2006 ($800,000) than it did the entire rest of the year ($625,000). Enrollment in the annual summer basketball camp more than doubled. N.C.A.A. licensing revenue went up by $100,000. - See more at: http://gmuhoops.co/2013/03/28/the-f...ons-2006-final-four-run/#sthash.Sjgf2EzV.dpuf

Give Paulsen what ever it takes! Give him what he needs and then some! We cant afford not to pay him.

Great to see coach @PaulsenDave's Sideline Coaching program highlighted by @CASEAdvance

http://www.case.org/Publications_and_Products/2017/MarchApril_2017/Good_Sports.html:

"'They work hard in class and out of class," says Karen Kitching, an associate professor in the School of Business who has participated in the program two years in a row. 'College basketball is serious business, and practice is intense. I don't believe most academics understand how difficult it is for a student to miss class because of the travel and have to make up that work on a bus.'

Paulsen agrees, noting that sideline coaching isn't about fulfilling a basketball fan's dream experience but about getting a glimpse into the work ethic of student-athletes. 'They still have to go to class and write the papers, but the athletic staff are with them two hours a day, six days a week, six months a year, for four years,' Paulsen says. 'We're teaching perseverance, leadership, communication skills, and dealing with success (and failure).'"

Two years ago, when Dave Paulsen accepted the George Mason job, he faced two big challenges: develop the young players already on the roster and recruit Atlantic 10-level players into the program.

He’s doing just that.

Sophomores Otis Livingston II and Jaire Grayer were both starters and heavily contributed to the Patriots’ success. Freshman Justin Kier started 29 of 33 games, while two more freshmen, Karmari Newman and Ian Boyd, played larger roles as the season went on.

Going into next season, Livingston II, Grayer, Kier, Newman, and Boyd will be back, along with a recruiting class that has the campus gleaming with excitement.

Love Paulsen...but I think he needs to go with polos and khakis or some other look on the sideline.

He look calm and relaxed above.

The whole disheveled dress shirt, loose tie and dress slacks make him appear to be some depressed office worker who just got thrown out of the bar after happy hour instead of a basketball coach during games...

We had a stylish coach not so long ago. He sucked.

I don't care what Dave looks like on the sideline as long as he stays at Mason and wins a sh!t-ton of basketball games.

I love it. Reminds me of Robert Loggia's character in Necessary Roughness when he had to be interim head coach for a game. Of course, he ripped his suit off at half-time.

It's classic blue color basketball coach fashion, my friend.

Great turnout and lots of fun. Some good shooters but far too many air balls. Too much time studying?

Dave Paulsen could be dressed in a stained wifebeater and tight cut of jean shorts and old white addidas sneakers and I would still love him more than the effete douchebags I have seen on sidelines.

Besides - in a wife beater you don't see pit stains.........
