While I think he generally did well for Mason and seemed to invest more in basketball than Merten, I just didn’t like him personally. Maybe if I had never met him, never had the experience of sitting next to him at a basketball game, and never followed him on Twitter I might have had a more favorable opinion of him. After they sat him next to me at a game, I requested they never do that again. Fortunately, they never did again.
Along the lines of GSII, he just wasn’t personable. He just didn’t come off as sincere. Just last year a friend, who is an alum, told me he introduced his boss to him to talk about donating to Mason. After talking to him, his boss told my friend to he never wanted to talk to that “used car salesmen” again.
So, he seemed to leave similar impressions with other people as well. Not sad to see him go, but there is a risk of getting a dud. If I had to, I’d choose Cabrera over Merten, though, because I can ignore the likability issues with Cabrera as long as it doesn’t hinder his building the necessary relationships.
What I want out of the next president is Men’s basketball, more Men’s basketball, and finally, more men’s basketball. I know it won’t happen, but one can dream.
