Mason is killing these programs with what Angel has done with Amazon. That is thousands of students that can now be recruited by George Mason/Amazon that will really hurt the schools you were once compared to.
I saw something that Amazon is building VA Tech a campus in Crystal City. What is our deal with Amazon and how does it compare to what VA Tech is getting? Any other VA or DMV area schools getting something from Amazon?

I don’t think we are getting anything? I think Amazon is building adjacent to the Arlington campus and we committed something like $150 million to expand/improve it. I don’t remember Amazon giving Mason anything.

Yeah we’re getting nothing. People are wildly overblowing what Amazon coming to NoVa means for Mason. Tech is building a campus at Potomac Yard. They’re the winners out of this. No one is going to choose Mason based off maybe one getting to work for Amazon because the main campus is 30 miles away from one of Amazon’s HQ. It might grab us a couple of students at the grad level but it isn’t a game changer for enrollment.

The Commonwealth backed both institutions regarding curriculum and facility development. VT was engineering based and Mason had another focus specific to their business enterprise. A 300 mil plus structure is being built on the Arlington campus. Matching deal by all accounts. Only two institutions related to state support in the deal according to reports.

Why is one in the news and the other is Mason? Just answered my own question

I’m guessing you don’t read, only comment.

"The Commonwealth is planning significant investments to increase technology-related master’s degree production in Northern Virginia, matching dollar-for-dollar the philanthropic funds raised by George Mason University for its Arlington campus and Virginia Tech for a new Alexandria-based Innovation Campus,”

You are wrong.

"George Mason University in Fairfax, Va., plans to triple its computer science graduates -- by growing undergraduate and graduate enrollment to 10,000 and 5,000 students respectively over the next five years. It will be game-changing,” said Ángel Cabrera, president of George Mason."

Just keep lowering the admission standards..

You’re one of my three favorites. You combine cynicism with a fatalistic element. You enjoy hammering what you know nothing about. The quintessential troll. The Carnegie Foundation has no clue in your myopic world because you have no clue what it even is.

I suppose you and I are talking about different things. If we want to up the enrollment on our end because we think we can place people in Amazon, that’s fine. But we’re not gaining institutional support from Amazon any more than anyone else is. I guess they may announce some internship partnership down the road but I haven’t seen anything on that front.

I guess my point is these seem like things Mason is doing unilaterally. It’s not like Amazon is endowing us with 100 mil to redo the original building on the Arlington Campus (which has been in the works for years; Amazon coming seems like lucky timing in terms of timing for rolling that out.) And I’m not convinced anyone at the undergrad level is really going to choose us because of Amazon, at least not enough kids to make a huge difference. At the grad level I could be wrong, that I’ll concede.

I could imagine Amazon being near Mason being a good thing for graduate enrollment, provided our grad programs are on par with the other schools nearby (specifically American, GW, and Georgetown).

I'll try again. There is no unilateral in this example of where Mason is headed and it is programming at the Bachelors level. Amazon announced this first step.

"Cybersecurity programs at George Mason and Virginia Tech, were among the draws for Amazon to bring its HQ2 headquarters to the D.C. area."

Amazon can say what they want as to why they came to NOVA. We all know they are there to penetrate defense technology. Countries will be able to order their missles and have em next day. GO MASON!

Maybe, but then they'll have to deal with people stealing delivered missiles from their front porch when they're not home. Hopefully the Ring door cameras catch them.
