"Edward Stack

eddy-stack.jpg

Eddy Stack is the Chairman and CEO of Dick’s sporting goods. He’s worth $1.1B and made his money by taking over his fathers (Dick Stack – Electric) two sporting goods stores and expanding to over 700 stores around the country. He checks almost every box. Grew up in Binghamton. Involved in sports at least in a minor way. Has over a billion dollars to play with. Slam dunk, case closed, right? Not so fast, the next candidate is so perfect I’d be utterly stunned if he isn’t our mystery donor.

Thomas Tull

thomas-tull-hall-award-1024x683.jpg

Thomas Tull is THE perfect candidate for our mystery donor. Mr. Tull made his fortune in the movie business. He founded Legendary Pictures which produced both the Dark Night trilogy and the Hangover trilogy. He’s also a part owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers and has a net worth of $1.2B. He grew up in Endwell which is six miles from Binghamton University. Here’s the kicker, he even sponsored Maine-Endwell Little League’s trip to Williamsport where they ended up winning the whole thing. While there wasn’t anybody on that team with the last name Tull, he obviously has a connection to that group of kids. If we do the math, those kids are now 15-16 and starting to think about college. If they started construction on the stadium this summer, they could conceivably be wrapping up for their Freshman year. He has the cash. He has a vested interest in the community, and even a connection to possible future student athletes. He’s our guy and you can’t say anything that would change my mind."

How could I forget about the Stack fortune? Dick's moved its headquarters to Pittsburgh, though the original store is still open in Binghamton. Tull best bet, guessing he is friend's with BU's head baseball coach, whose name escapes me right now. Another local guy who is roughly the same age as Tull. Tull played baseball in high school - may have played at DIII Hamilton College too - not sure.

Tim Sinicki is the BU coach. I played Vestal JV basketball for Tim's brother, Chris. Tull did donate the upgrades to M-E's baseball facility. Tull isn't the BU donor.

Stack isnt the donor either. I appreciate the Stack family sponsoring the Dick's Sporting Goods Open at En Joie and opening the distribution center in town. But if they really wanted to help out the area, they'd move Dick's headquarters back to Binghamton.

I heard the donor is a former BU baseball player who owns a dental practice with multiple locations. He doesnt live in the Binghamton area.

Must be a hell of a dentist to be able to swing that kind of donation. Does he do grills?

"UMass: The Minutemen have not had a winning record under Matt McCall, but that should change this season. UMass returns three double-figure scorers — Tre Mitchell, T.J Weeks, and Carl Pierre — with the 6-9 Mitchell set to emerge as one of the top front court players in the country after averaging 17.7 points and 7.2 rebounds last year as a freshman. McCall needs mileage out of newcomers Noah Fernandes (Wichita State) and Javohn Garcia at point guard, but has a nucleus in place that is good enough to be competitive with the top teams in the Atlantic 10. This could be the best team that the Minutemen have had since they reached the 2014 NCAA Tournament under Derek Kellogg."

“George Mason, the team without any identity”

Cant say that it’s wrong.
I think they bring up some valid points about our ball movement issues, will be interested to see how the offense will have changed going into this season. If we see a high ball screen handoff in the first possession of the opening game I think that these boards might explode (especially if we all have our laptops in front of us because we can’t go to the games).

You beat me to it, I enjoyed their podcast I guess they don’t consider the continuous ball handoff we run to be good ball movement.
