Sucks for us. Can we afford to pay 1 million per year salary. You know DP is gonna ask to match.

I would say, "Win something - A10 championship, game in NCAA tourney, something - then we will talk."

According to Jeff Goodman of ESPN, Duquesne has agreed to a 7 year deal with Akron’s Keith Dambrot. This is big news for a team that’s been struggling to find a head coach and has been losing players left and right. Dambrot led the Zips to a 27-9 finish in the MAC, and despite missing out on the NCAA Tournament, it was a pretty successful season for him. Unfortunately for Dambrot, two of Duquesne’s best freshmen recently transferred out of the program, and he’ll have a lot of work to do before this team takes the court next November. But at the end of the day if you’re a Duquesne fan, you have to feel relieved that your team hired a head coach.

EXCELLENT hire for them, he did an amazing job at Akron. 5 NIT's, 3 NCAA's and at least 19 wins every.single.season since 2004. Amazing he last this long at Akron.

Do you really want to a guy who turns down a million dollar job to keep a $400K job anyway?

Talk about your barometers for bad judgment.

True, but for some people money isn't everything. Maybe he's happier somewhere else? Maybe his children like the schools? Maybe his wife loves the area? It's not cut and dry with some people. Maybe it is for the Hewitt's and Wade's of the world, but money isn't the #1 thing to every coach.

That being said, a $1,000,000 salary is hard to turn down, unless the school is in the sticks of Arkansas. And even then...

While UMass is a big school with ressources......if you aren't in coaching for the money...then there's no reason to draw you there.

No one really cares about hoops here in the north above Connecticut.
If it's not the Pats, Socks or Bruins no one cares.
Amherst as a town stinks.
Weather is delporable.
On average, New England people are cold and nasty.

UMass=Seton Hall, Providence, St. Johns etc....they hey days of strong basketball programs from the northeast dominating are over. As I have read in the old days....great players stayed near home from the northeast. Now talent and recruiting are widespread and none of the kids want to stay in the dreary northeast if they can help it.

So....I could say the same for a coach.

Im a born and bred Virginian, transplanted to Maine.

You just summarized my inital interaction with everyone in the Boston area.

It took me the longest time realize that "Hey asshole, you stupid m*ther f*cker, what the F8ck"...was Massachusetts, NH, etc for "Hey stranger, I don;t know you yet...and maybe you're cool...but how you doin?"

I'm the exact inverse (substitute NH for Maine.) I will say depending on where you are in VA it isn't much different. I see no real difference in the people in NoVa other than some of them aren't white. Southern part of the state is much friendlier. You're dead on about the teams though, it's a pro sports area. Only 1 P5 school in 6 states and it's probably one of the worst. Used to be a college hockey area but even that balance of power has started to shift.

NOVA is a bunch of transplants. The old, southern culture is hidden in pockets but largely gone.

I'm from Miami, which is the same way: a completely different country than the rest of Florida.
