A10 Coaching Carousel

I'm going to go against conventional wisdom and say it's a bad thing for us.

We can't simultaneously whine about the lack of at-large bids in the tourney, then turn around and cheer when some of the best A-10 coaches jump ship.

Well no, I mean obviously we can, but those two aims are mutually exclusive. I'm sure lots of JMU fans were happy when Larranaga headed South but it sure as Hell didn't make the CAA stronger.

Do Dayton promote one of his assistants?

They were pretty conservative with Archie Miller's initial salary, but they are also now in a position to pay a more established guy and peel him away from a successful mid-major.

Huge loss for the A10. TheA10 is no longer teeming with amazing coaches like it had in its glory years. No cheney, no miller no dumphy, no mack and the list goes on. I mean we have ferry who despite myself hating him is a great coach and mckillop. Hopefully Paulsen becomes the next great. Only time will tell

Whoa. Huge loss. Am I alone on the mixed feelings? Good for the conference is good for us, so you want them to reload. You also want to see top teams struggle so we can take their place. But getting to the top of a weakened league is certainly not as good as getting to the top of a strong league. Plus, why do other people get to reload but we get Paul Hewitt? To think I used to like TOC.

I'd rather be top in a so-so league than bottom in a great league.

It's a good thing for us.

It would be good to organically grow to the top of the pile, but little things like this help as well.

The only mistake is assuming a new coach means the program has a problem.

Duquesne and UMASS have program problems beyond the coach. Dayton doesn't.

Like any hire...it's a crap shoot.
We should know more then anyone that a poor coaching hire can set a program back 5 years

UMass is reportedly speaking with Seth Greenberg of ESPN
I always thought he got snubbed at VT. Every tear he was on the bubble and probably should have recieved bids to the tourney. Before him VT basketball was a joke. I actually thought mason should have considered him when coach L left.

He had OOC SOS's in the 200s and generally didn't beat any of the top ACC teams, which is why his teams didn't get NCAA tournament bids.

If UMass want to beat up on cupcakes and lose to the top half of the A-10 every year, Greenberg is their man.

I'd rather be at the top in a great/multi-bid league.

Seems like vcu will have continuity. Dayton has the resources to hire a great coach away from another program.

Duquense is going to stay Duquense (so no great loss there). UMass might have some problems. But of course we are ascendant. Fordham has gotten better (I think their days of being a floor mat are over, at least for now). URI, St. Joes, St. Bonaventure, Richmond, and Davidson will remain strong, having good to great years depending. After a rocky start to the season, GW's coach seemed to have found his form, so I don't think they'll be a problem going forward. I don't see La Salle dropping off the map. We'll see about St. Louis and Travis Ford, but they played hard at the end of the season and won some games.

I don't think there's much to worry about here.

Danny Hurley's name being thrown around a lot for the GT position. The smart money seems to be on him or Amaker....Mike Brey ain't walkin through that door and neither is Shaka.

I don't have specific details but I heard that GW is basically strapped because of the potential Lonergan buyout, so they don't have a choice to go with anyone but Joseph from an affordability standpoint. If I recall he had an extension for a few years
